*An Eight Man Manual Fire Engine, circa 1780 and Purchased in 1825 by Royal Exchange Assurance, London, of brass mounted mahogany construction, inlaid to each side of the cistern with the brass badge of the Royal Exchange Assurance Office, also with an oval plaque inscribed 'Repd by Hadley, Simpkin & Lott, Longacre, London, and with later oval plaque inscribed 'Merryweather Engineer Royal Patent Longacre, London', and another inscribed 'Merryweather and Sons Engineers & Lambeth London' together with leather riveted hose, copper and brass nozzle attachment and associated black and tan riding boots. Sold together with a mahogany plaque inscribed 'This eight man manual fire engine was manufactured circa 1780 by Hadleys Simpkin & Lott and purchased in 1825 by Royal Exchange Assurance for its fire brigade in London. Water was drawn from rivers and canals etc through a leather riveted hose. Additionally the engine could be filled by pouring water through the aperture at each end of the sump. Authentic restoration was completed in 1982 by the British engineerium in Brighton'. (151cm high, 163cm long, 77cm wide)
*A Manual Fire-Engine, Bristow, London, the rear panel painted with the mark of the Order of Royal Exchange Assurance 1793, with 'Bristow Fecit' stamped above, now extensively restored, together with three leather covered and riveted hose sections and a copper nozzle, (160cm high, 238cm long, 92cm wide), sold together with a plaque inscribed 'Manual Fire Engine, this fire engine was built by Bristow of London to the order of Royal Exchange Assurance in 1793 on the pattern of one designed by Newsham in 1724.
