N. Hancock, "the first Works Employee under Air Commodore Whittle", on Power Jets letterhead, 30 May 1946, signed by a superintendent; an invitation card for Mr. & Mrs. L. N. Our Homes On The Peak [Victoria Peak, Hong Kong], comprising 12 mounted albumen prints [photographs], including Peak Tramway; Kennedy Rd & Scotch Ch.; The Curve; Engine House & Peak Hotel; Mount Austin Hotel; Mount Austin Hotel Compound; Homes on Mt Kellet; Homes on Magazine Gap; View of Hong Kong with Cathedral & City Hall Theatre, and others, oblong 4to, quarter crushed morocco with photographic covers, label on verso of upper board ("D. K. Griffith, Artist Photographer"), albumen prints in good order with occasional pale spots & early pencil annotation, cockling to card leaves, some wear to covers, housed in a green cloth slipcase, VERY SCARCE, possibly unrecorded, Hong Kong: Griffith, 1892 ❧ D. K. Griffith was an English commercial photographer active in Hong Kong Provenance: By descent of Henry Lardner Dennys, Crown Solicitor and one of the first people to live on the Peak (his home is annotated in the book). Dennys notably helped Dr Sun Yat-Sen escape torture and likely death at the hands of the Manchu Imperial Police
Letter books from Robert Stephenson and Company, Newcastle upon Tyne. When the engineering firm were sending out a letter to a customer or supplier, they would have taken the freshly written letter and placed it onto one of the blank pages in these books, by then pressing the letter and page together the image would be transferred - the paper is very thin so the reversed image can be read from the other side - this was a way of keeping a record of mail sent out. Because the books contain all the correspondence sent from the firm they provide a real insight into railway engineering history. the first book covers the period 1857-1862, 2nd book: 1867-1872, 3rd book: 1873-1880, 4th book: 1880-1884, 5th book: 1884-1888. The letters relate to all aspects of production. Interestingly they discuss many orders from international railways, those mentioned include: East India Railways, Great Indian Peninsula Railway, Natal Railway, Buenos Aires Railway, Great Western of Brazil Railway, Egyptian Railways, and Central Uruguay Railway. Engine parts and sizes are recorded and basic technical drawings are made, some with later adjustments and notes made in pencil. With international deliveries, diagrams and estimations seem to be made regarding shipping. Orders also include a pumping engine for Swannington pit, the former mine was filling with water, which could run through to other pits, so R. S. & Co. supplied the huge engine - one of the biggest in the world at the time. Railway enthusiasts may make sense of the technical information, and recognise names mentioned such as Patrick Sterling or John Dobson Wardale (head draughtsman at Stephenson's). The condition has expected wear from being from an engineering works - oily handling marks and toning at edges. The edges and corners of boards have rubbing and wear, the half-calf has rubbing and 3 of the books are missing the leather from the spines, book 1 has a detached board, but all boards and text-blocks are present. 11 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches (5)

9ct gold fancy engine turned open faced keyless fob watch with Roman numerals, together with a long gold plated fancy guard type chain, in associated box and further vintage cigar box. Overall of watch 27g approx. (B.P. 21% + VAT) The glass is missing from the watch and the bezel is detached.
Angle Lifeboat Pembrokeshire, Royal National Lifeboat Institution Second Service Medal in bronze, awarded to Coxswain/Mechanic William John Rees Homes, in recognition of his courage, skill and determination when the lifeboat rescued the crew of three of the fishing boat Cairns More, which was in tow of the tug Barracuda after an engine failure and in danger of capsize five miles southwest of the Hats and Barrells rocks in the south easterly storm and a heavy breaking sea, December 1978. Original case. (B.P. 21% + VAT) No original paperwork. Additional images of naming and engraving on rear of clasp added. Case is named: 'Medal Presented by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution'.
