1955 AC Ace Transmission: manualMileage:2An influential and widely imitated design, the AC Ace (and its Cobra derivative) could trace its origins back to a one-off sports-racer built by chassis engineer John Tojeiro for Cliff Davis in 1952. The success of Davis' Tojeiro sports-racer prompted AC Cars to acquire the rights to the design, which was put into production in 1954 as the Ace. The Davis car's pretty Ferrari 166 inspired Barchetta bodywork was retained, as was Tojeiro's twin-tube ladder frame chassis and Cooper-influenced all-independent suspension, but the power unit was AC's own venerable, 2.0 litre, long-stroke six. Designed by AC co-founder John Weller, this overhead-camshaft engine had originated in 1919 and with a modest 80bhp (later 100bhp) on tap, endowed the Ace with respectable, if not outstanding, performance. Nevertheless, in tuned form the Ace enjoyed great success in production sports car racing, winning its class at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in 1959.In 1954 AC added a hardtop version - the fastback-styled Aceca - and both models later became available with the more powerful Bristol engine before production ceased in 1963. Towards the end of production, the Ace was also available with the 2.6 litre overhead-valve Ford Zephyr engine installed. Only 223 cars were delivered with the 2.0 litre AC engine compared with 463 Bristol-engined cars and a further 37 Ford-powered examples.Chassis number ‘AE44’ is one of the earliest production cars, finished by the factory in green body colour, trimmed in beige leather and fitted with the AC six-cylinder engine ‘UMB2102-H’. Supplied as Ex-Works on 31st January 1955 and brokered through Swanmore Garage, Bournemouth to its first custodian Mr. F Richards of Poole, Dorset.The next significant owner was Mr. H.E.M Russel of Danemoor, Malvern. He was the custodian of the car from 1975-1999, during this time it was solely used for gentle road use. Shortly after the car was marketed by The Car Centre in 1999, it passed to the most recent custodian who embarked on a, from the ground up, body-off restoration to the highest standard. Brooklands Motor Cars Ltd were approached to attend to all the chassis work for the motorcar, including local repairs whilst retaining as much of the original framework as possible. The rest of the restoration was kept to the highest standard including a full rebuild of the current engine ‘UMB1219’ by Tyler Motorsports of Kingstone, Hereford. Coachwork, paintwork and the upholstery were undertaken by AC Heritage Works, based at Brooklands. The period livery consists of a black leather interior paired with the period AC racing green. 1985 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Transmission: manualMileage:206000A modern classic by Pininfarina, the simple yet elegant Spider bodywork that premiered on the 1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto would prove enduringly popular, lasting into the 1990’s. All S3 2000 Alfa Romeo’s were produced left hand drive however a select few dealers such as Lombarda and Bell & Colvill used Ellisons of Hull to convert these prior to sale from new, with all UK S3 therefore missing a passenger’s side glovebox. The Pininfarina designed Alfa Romeo offered here was manufactured during 1985 and first registered in the UK on 6th August 1985 in right hand drive guise. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016 as a stalled project and set to work by fitting new outer sills and having the car fully repainted in Alfa Romeo Rosso. 1991 Excalibur Phaeton IV Transmission: automaticMileage:18949The Excalibur from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was a car styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Stevens subsequently formed a company to manufacture and market the cars which were conventional under their styling. A prototype premiered at car shows in 1964 fitted on a Studebaker chassis and using a 290-horsepower Studebaker 289ci V8. Studebaker subsequently ceased operations, ending the availability of its 289ci V8 so General Motors agreed to provide a Chevrolet 327ci in 300bhp Corvette tune, making the 2100-pound Excalibur a strong performer. With acceleration from 0-60mph taking less than five seconds and projected top speed was 160mph, the Excalibur was not for the faint hearted.This 1983 Phaeton IV model benefits from a 4998cc engine and was imported from the USA in 1991. 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena Transmission: manualMileage:51921The Ferrari 360 was manufactured from 1999 to 2005 and succeeded the F355. It is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, V8 powered coupé and Ferrari partnered with Alcoa to produce an entirely new, all aluminium space-frame chassis that was 40% stiffer than the F355. Along with a lightweight frame, the new Pininfarina body styling deviated from traditions of the previous decade's sharp angles and flip-up headlights. 1974 Triumph GT6 Mk. III Transmission: manualMileage:20910A fastback Spitfire powered by the 2000 saloon's two litre, six-cylinder engine, the GT6 arrived in October 1966 with production running until 1973. Like the Spitfire, it inherited what was essentially the Triumph Herald's chassis and running gear which had already proved capable of handling six-cylinder power when developed for the Vitesse saloon. A comfortable ride was considered vital for the all important North American market so the GT6 inherited the Herald/Spitfire's softly sprung rear swing axle although the latter arrangement would be superseded by lower wishbones on the GT6 Mk. II. At the same time the engine received a power boost courtesy of the TR5 cylinder head and 'hotter' camshaft, maximum output increasing from 95 to 104bhp. The restyled, last-of-the-line, Mk. III adopted the contemporary Spitfire's simpler 'swing-spring' rear suspension. Brisk performance (100mph+) and stylish, the GT6 well deserved its 'mini E-Type' sobriquet and today, is one of the most sought after post-war Triumph sports cars with only 13,042 Mk. 1973 Jensen Healey Transmission: manualMileage:84462The Jensen Healey was designed in a joint venture by Donald Healey and William Towns with Jensen Motors and it was hoped that Healey could help to contribute the sense of style that made the Austin Healey a hit. Jensen looked to Lotus for the power plant as they had a new, untested engine available, thus all Jensen Healey models came equipped with the new 1973cc Lotus 907 engine. This multi-valve engine has a claim to be the first to be used in a 'mass produced' car with a setup producing approximately 144bhp and a top speed of 119mph and accelerating from 0-60mph in just 8.1 seconds.This attractive Jensen has benefitted from a comprehensive restoration and some well thought out enhancements to the body. 1979 Ford Capri MK. III 3.0S Transmission: manualMileage:93540Production of the all new Capri was started a few months before its debut at the 1969 Brussels International Motor Show. 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagoda Transmission: automaticMileage:50380The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear-wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer, Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort”. Early or pre-September 1964 cars had a vertically mounted spare wheel that recessed into the spare wheel well on the left hand side of the boot. After September 1964, Mercedes-Benz did away with the wheel well, instead lying the spare wheel horizontally, compromising boot space commonly thus early cars were known as ‘drop floor cars’ which are desirable especially for those touring and wanting the extra space.Sold at auction by Historics to Pagoda restoration specialists in March 2020, this early ‘drop floor’ or vertically mounted rear wheel well, UK supplied, right hand drive matching engine and chassis car has had an interesting last 24 months. The result of a bad debt, it was repossessed by the bank (Santander) before being offered by Historics having been stripped and readied for restoration with some £10,000 spent in preparation. 1955 Morris Pick-up Transmission: manualMileage:77379The Morris Minor was a British economy car that made its debut at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, over 1.3 million examples were manufactured from 1948 to 1971. Initially available as a two-door saloon and convertible, the range was subsequently expanded to include a four-door saloon in 1950, and a wood-framed estate, the Traveller, plus the panel van and pick-up variants in 1952.This charming Pick-up was registered in 1955 and is presented in silver with a cream interior. This rare early split screen Morris Pick-up has been subject to an extensive restoration and presents very well indeed perhaps better than when new. 1975 Triumph Stag Transmission: automaticMileage:82290The ‘Stag’ name was a development codename allocated when the design project was initiated by Giovanni Michelotti in 1965. None of the subsequent names suggested through the process were ever deemed more compelling. 55 years later the Triumph Stag occupies one of the cornerstones of the collector’s car market. The svelte Michelotti styling married to decadent V8 power makes this model both beautiful to look at and enormous fun to drive. 1990 Jaguar XJS Convertible Transmission: automaticMileage:45228In 1975, the Jaguar E-Type finally gave way to an all new and more efficient Jaguar, the Jaguar XJS. This new luxury grand tourer, although never quite having the same sporting image as the E-Type, was actually more aerodynamic with the final example leaving the production line on 4th April 1996; at that stage 115,413 units had been manufactured during a 21 year production life. Power came from the Jaguar V12 engine with a choice of a manual or automatic transmission although the manual gearbox was soon dropped. V12 engine cars were unusual at the time with notable exceptions coming from Italian luxury sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari. The specifications of the XJS compared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph.This Jaguar was originally registered on 22nd March 1990 and presents in delightful condition. The Signal Red coachwork is unmarked as is the Magnolia interior. Having covered only 45,228 miles from new and with a good service history, it is clear that this has been a very well cared for motor vehicle. Recent servicing has been thorough with no expense spared and has included inner and outer track rod ends, track rod boot covers, a new rotor arm, a new window motor, four new rear springs, four new tyres and a full service, a new distributor cap, high performance ignition leads and spark plugs, a new battery and the air conditioning has been re-gassed. 1963 MG B Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:98728Conceived in the late 1950s and launched in 1962, the MGB would turn out to be one of the most successful sports cars of all time. Attractively styled, cheap to run and easily maintained by the home mechanic, the 'B' carried on MG's traditional role of providing affordable, sports car motoring for the ordinary enthusiast. The MGB was mechanically similar to the preceding MGA, though with a heavier, unitary construction bodyshell. To compensate for the newcomer's increased weight the existing B-Series engine was stretched from 1,622 to 1,798cc, while the MGB's aerodynamically efficient lines made the most of the maximum available 95bhp to achieve a top speed which just bested the magic 'ton'. A 'right first time' design that changed little over the years apart from the adoption of a more robust five-main-bearing engine in 1965 (fitted from the start of GT production that autumn) a minor facelift for 1970 and the adoption of plastic bumpers (to comply with US legislation) for 1975, the 'B' enjoyed an 18 year production life and sales totalling in excess of 500,000 cars. 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:90400The 560 SL convertible was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much loved line of luxury sports cars. Launched in 1983 it could trace its lineage back to the 230 SL of 1963. The 560 SL was powered by a 5.5 litre, overhead camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220kmh with 100kmh reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive, anti-squat rear suspension, a limited slip differential and revised steering geometry. 1963 Triumph Herald 12/50 Transmission: manualMileage:36688Standard-Triumph launched the Herald in 1959 as a replacement for its ageing Standard 8/10 models. It bucked the trend towards monocoque construction by featuring a separate chassis to which the main tub was bolted. The one-piece front end folded forwards to provide optimum access to the engine and suspension, while all outer panels, including the roof, could be unbolted for easy repair. The design made for the ready adoption of alternative body styles and saloon, coupé, convertible, estate and van derivatives were all offered during the models 12-year reign with production numbers exceeding 300,000.Presented in British Racing Green and having been owned by our vendor since 1992, this lovely privately owned example was fully restored between 1993 and 1999 and the history file contains all the details and photos of the ground-up restoration, beginning with a new chassis in 1993. Starley Garage, Brighton (grandson of the original Star Motor Company, Wolverhampton 1898-1932) performed the majority of the restoration culminating in a total body respray.We are informed the car is always garaged and has covered only 4,000 miles since the initial restoration and is regularly used on sunny days and fully maintained with no expense spared. 2000 Nissan Silvia Varietta Transmission: automaticMileage:114600The S15 versions of the Silvia boasted 247bhp from its inline-four engine, thanks to a turbocharger upgrade and engine management system while the non-turbo SR20DE produced 163bhp. The body dimensions were reduced from the previous generation so that it would comply with Japanese Government compact class. The model line-up was initially simplified to just the Spec-S and Spec-R, both models offering an ‘Aero’ variant with a large rear wing and side skirts/valances. This generation of the Silvia was only sold in Japan, Australia and New Zealand but was available as a grey import in most other countries. In Japan, Nissan offered a retractable hardtop variant of the Silvia, called the Varietta. The Varietta was built by Autech,a subsidiary of Nissan, and was based on the Spec-S model, featuring the same naturally aspirated engine, with a choice of the five-speed manual transmission or the four-speed automatic transmission. This is a rare type of Nissan Silvia which is uncommon in most places as only 1143 cars were produced. This example, presented in metallic blue, is one of the very few Varietta examples that can be found on these shores.and was imported by our vendor for his wife incidentally also named Silvia in 2016. With one lady owner since import and a record of all maintenance, this S15 also has a heads-up display which provides the speed in mph. This two-litre automatic example comes with the SYL cherished number plate and boasts leather trim with heated seats and is described as in good condition throughout. 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL Transmission: automaticMileage:76000Introduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280SL. The body and chassis of the third generation Mercedes-Benz SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still showed a resemblance to them. The 3.5 litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generation SL's, the vehicle came as an open roadster with removable hardtop and went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of engine size were available, one of the more powerful and rarer was the 4.5 litre unit.Originally delivered new to California in the USA, this example was imported to the UK in 2019. Now presented with a modern grey paintwork and contrasting but original leather trim and matching hardtop. This example has clearly seen some restoration works over the past 18 months by the previous owner which includes fully painting the car and some bespoke trimming coupled to a new rear box on the exhaust and additional sound deadening and carpeting. This restoration was fulfilled by the then owner rather than professionally, but the current vendor states the car runs and drives very well however it would benefit from some further finishing touches as the air conditioning is not currently functioning and there is a crack in the rear hardtop screen.
