Two emissaries arrived from the other side to arrange that an area to the North of us should not be fought over. It seemed that it is a concentration camp with 60,000 inmates of whom some 2,000 have typhus of one sort or another. They dont want the disease to spread. Apart from this there are many criminals who might escape if the camp were fought over ..., Today we moved again to Celle Airfield. I travelled with Chester Wilmot & we went to the place where the concentration camp people were said to be. They had gone to the hospitals. There we followed them and heard their story. They were foreigners (& Germans) who were on force labour for a variety of reasons & had worked in the Anmann Gocing Works near Braunschweig. About a week ago they were taken from there by train, some 4,000 of them, including 300 women & they stopped at Celle for the engine to refuel. Their guards told them were off to Sachsenhausen where they would be gassed or shot. At Celle their train was between an ammo
