A button off the famous firefighter James Braidwoods uniform Comprising a white metal domed topped button, James Braidwood was born in 1800 and founded the worlds first Municipal fire service in Edinburgh in 1824, he was the first director of the London fire engine establishment, he tragically died at the Tooley Street fire on the 22nd June 1861 where a wall crushed him to death, the funeral procession was a mile and ahalf long, as a mark of respect every church in the city rang its bells. The buttons and epaulette's from his uniform were removed and distributed to the fire fighters of LFEE. Also a framed print of James Braidwood, by C H Jeens dated 1866, verso with history of the picture and how it came down to the family. Provenance: James Braidwood was the maternal grandfather of the vendors late grandmother by descent.
A fine Swiss open face detached lever pocket watch, signed Duchene Peyrot & Co, Geneva, no. 55438, key wind, the engine turned dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and embellished with foliage, the reverse simply engine turned, within a foliate chased edge, the signed and numbered cuvette further engraved DETACHED LEVER/ FULL JEWELL'D. Diameter of case 46mm, gross 63 grams
A Continental 18 carat gold, diamond and enamel lady's fob watch, the circular dial with Arabic numerals and engine turning within an enamel bezel, the reverse with engine turning and later centred by a diamond within an enamel border; the chain hallmarked 9 carat gold. Gross 20 grams, diameter 28mm
A silver salver, J.B. Chatterley & Sons, Birmingham 1973, in Georgian style with moulded rim, raised on three scroll feet, 15.9oz, 25.5cm; together with a silver cigarette box, Richard Comyns, London 1933, the hinged rectangular cover with geometric engine turning in Art Deco style, weighted. (2)
