A HORNBY 'THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE' COLLECTION comprising an 0-4-0 tank locomotive 'Percy', 6, lined green livery, boxed; 0-6-0 tank locomotive 'Thomas', 1, lined blue livery, unboxed; two four-wheel coaches, 'Annie' and 'Clarabel', unboxed; five assorted wagons, each boxed; and a breakdown crane, boxed, (10).
Polish 41st Infantry Regiment Cigarette Case, silver plated rectangular engine turned decorated case with spring catch fitting. Front of the case is mounted with an enamel breast badge of the 41st Suwalski Infantry Regiment. Inside the case has stamped Clifton England. Accompanied by another continental silver cigarette case with 1938 dated inscription to the inside, small bracelet with Polish eagle to the centre, small plated brass cigarette lighter with mounted badges and a combination tool. Regimentally Important Pocket Watch Belonging to Colonel P H Eyre 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot, Killed in Action at Kirbekan February 10th 1885, stemwind pinset hunter cased pocket watch. Silver engine turned case with hallmarks for London 1883 and makers mark for Walter Augustus Hall. Movement is signed by the retailer Rowlands & Frazer. Inside lid of the watch is engraved, P H Eyre Col 38TH REGT had on this Watch when killed in action at KIRBEKAN Feb 10th 1885. The watches movement is not running and is in need of restoration, item is being sold as a collectors item not a working instrument. **Lieutenant Colonel Philip Holman Eyre was born in 1832. He enlisted as a private in the 38th Regiment of foot in 1850. He took part in the Crimean war, serving with the regiment during the siege and fall of Sebastopol. He later served in the Indian Mutiny. He gained promotion to Ensign on the 10th August 1854, slowly raising through the officer ranks and finally becoming Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the 38th Regiment of foot in November 1882. He served in the Egypt campaign of 1882 and was mentioned in despatches during the campaign. He served during the Sudan Campaign and he was killed in action at the battle of Kirbekan. **The Battle of Kirbekan was fought between the British Nile Column and the Mahdist forces. Under the command of General Earle. The British forces stormed the heights of Kirbekan, which was held by a very strong force of Mahdist warriors. The British forces totally routed the enemy, but with very heavy loss. General Earle was also killed during the action. A brass plaque is in Lichfield cathedral commemorating the death of Lieutenant Colonel Eyre.
