An unusual English double fusee, hour striking carriage clock by Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy, London, circa 1840. The circular, silvered, engine turned dial, signed Vulliamy, London, with Roman numerals and blue steel Bregnet hands, set within an engraved, gilt mask. The hour striking double fusee movement with English ratchet tooth lever escapement and heavy bi-metallic compensation balance, striking on a gong, with silvered strike/silent and hand setting dials to the rear. The backplate signed VULLIAMY LONDON No. 1497. In a gilt, five glass, brass case (gilding rubbed) on bun feet, with turned carrying handle. The case numbered 819 to the base. 7 ½" High (including handle). An almost identical clock is pictured in Derek Roberts - Carriage and Other Travelling Clocks
