Piece Eagle Sqn in US Service Signed by 3 Eagle Sqn Pilots in WW11. Piece Size 4 3 /4 by 5 ¾ inches Eagle Sqn in US Service. Personally Signed by 3 Eagle Sqn Pilots Col D Blakeslee, Steve Pisanos, James Goodson Full Details below. Personally Signed by Colonel Don Blakeslee, commander of the 4th Fighter Group. With 133 Eagle Sqn flying the Supermarine Spitfire. He had flown more than 100 sorties in the graceful fighter and been credited with three aerial victories by the time the RAF's three Eagle squadrons were transferred to the U. S. Army Air Forces in September 1942, forming the 4th Fighter Group. To their general displeasure, Blakeslee and the other Americans soon traded their Spitfires for P-47C Thunderbolts. When there was a multiple claim in the group, Blakeslee always gave credit to the junior pilots. Though aggressive in the cockpit, he was no glory hunter. Many of his contemporaries believed he actually destroyed at least 30 German planes during his four years in the European theatre. With almost 500 sorties and about 1, 000 combat hours to his credit, he is believed to have flown more missions and hours than any other American fighter pilot in World War II.
