SIR FRANK WHITTLE: An important collection of "Whittle Jet Engine" memorabilia. Including: a reel to reel tape showing one of the first ever jet engine speed trials, a report on "The Development of the Whittle Jet Engine", by WA Randalls, an extensive collection of original photographs of the jet engine, Whittle and his team and a collection of newspaper cuttings. See illustrations Sir Frank Whittle designed and invented the first jet engine. He left school at the age of 15 to become an RAF apprentice and engineer scientist. He developed the jet engine between the age of 18 and 23, the original aircraft is now in the Science Museum. Provenance: The family of Mr W.A. Randles, Whittles "right hand man".

A Louis Philippe gilt and patinated bronze and marmo Siena mounted desk set, circa 1835, comprising an ink stand with urn shaped well with hinged lid on a rectangular base, 11.5cm high; a pair of candlesticks en suite, 15cm high; and a letter clip; all with engine milled decoration and Vitruvian scroll banding Condition Report:** Good condition, with just the usual very minor knocks overall, consistent with age and use. One candlestick is loose and will need tightening up. Gilt surfaces are dark and very minorly tarnished.
