Lettice Curtis, Lovely colour postcard of a Spitfire LF MK VB of 316 Squadron, signed on the front (and the back!) by Lettice Curtis, the famous female aviator. She famously ferried Spitfires to frontline squadrons during WWII and was the first woman pilot to deliver a Lancaster, and the first woman pilot to be trained on four engine bombers. An amazing woman. Good condition
A late 19th century 18ct gold Swiss open faced fob watch, with decorated white enamel dial, black Roman numerals, and spade hands, the outer case foliate engraved overall, and stamped ‘18k’ and Helvetia hallmark, bar cylinder movement, the case 35mm diameter; together with two other open faced fob watches, and a lady’s Swiss silver wristwatch, import marked London 1913, the cases 34mm, 34mm and 28mm diameter (4) MOVEMENTS: first: key wound bar cylinder movement, with domed three arm brass balance, functioning at time of cataloguing (sluggish); second keyless wound, with straight line club tooth lever movement, bimetallic split balance and overcoil balance spring, functioning nicely at time of cataloguing; third keyless wound, straight line club tooth lever, bimetallic compensated balance, not functioning; the wristwatch, bar cylinder movement, functioning at time of cataloguing CASES: first, four piece engraved on case back, vacant cartouche to the centre, engraving crisp, hinge slightly misaligned; second, four piece, engraved as the first, case not hallmarked, in good overall condition; third, four piece, .935 Swiss silver standard, case back engine turned and with monogram to the centre, bezel badly dented; wristwatch, three piece, tarnished, but good overall condition DIALS: first, no condition issues apparent; second, likewise; third, signed N.W & Co, badly chipped at 10 and between 4 and 5; wristwatch with hairline fractures across the dial
A Swiss silver coloured pocket watch, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, outer seconds dial, blued steel hands, and subsidiary seconds dial, with stem wound 15 jewel Swiss lever movement, the case 52mm diameter MOVEMENT: straight line club tooth lever movement with bimetallic partial-split compensating balance, flat balance spring, regulator index on the balance cock. Movement not functioning. CASE: four piece case decorated overall with cast bands and engine turning, thin gauge and badly dented on the reverse. Additional loose disc to place within the bezel. DIAL: hairline crack across the dial between 10 and 4, and chipped around the cannon pinion.
