Worksplate, Baldwin Locomotive Works 34791 dated 1910, circular brass, 12¼" diameter. Ex metre gauge 4-6-0 locomotive of the Sorocabana Railway (E.F. Sorocabaña) of Brazil. Numbered 100 when new with 4 ft. 5 inch driving wheels for the 1909 extension towards the Rio Paraña in South Western Saõ Paulo State which encountered 2% grades. Coffee was a staple product for shipment. The engine was withdrawn in 1972. This was the first year of this style of Baldwin plate (but with no "The" in the title), which became standard for 35 years, except that this huge size was changed to the normal 9 inch plate from 1911. The back has had much grime removed to reveal the Baldwin class no. stamped in the back `10 80 D 545`. The front is restored. A rare and unusual plate.
