Hallmarked Birmingham 1957 and 1958. Condition Report : Overall condition good, silver in need of clean. A Grande Sonnerie gilt brass carriage clock made for the Chinese market, with push button repeat and alarm late 19th century, no. 591, in gilt Anglaise Riche case with chased floral and foliate decoration and curled ribbon borders, the recessed base fitted with a selection lever, with white circular Roman enamel dial with Arabic outer 5 minute track and blued steel hands, an alarm dial beneath, within a silvered, engine turned mask, the eight day two train movement signed with three Chinese characters, with silvered platform escapement and striking the hours and quarters on two bells, with push button repeat sounding the last hour at will, 6in. (15.25cm.) high excluding handle, in the original green velvet travelling case with key. *Winds and runs. Strikes correctly and repeat is functioning. Overall condition very good - no notable faults. A few small dark spots of tarnish to surface of gilt case. The velvet travel case is only in poor to fair condition - faded, wear & splits / holes to edges and corners and velvet is partially detached from one side of lid. Carrying handle missing.

(7cm.) wide, weight 2.66 tr.oz * Original Paint & Son receipt, dated 24 Sept 1988. * Good strong hinge and strong hallmarks, very little wear, good.

An Art Deco style George VI stylish silver gilt and enamel cigarette case, having crisp guilloche enamel decorated front with gilt fleur-de-lys design, engine turned outer case and back and gilt interior, hallmarked by Albert Carter, Birmingham, 1951, approx. 7.5cm wide x 8.5cm long. Gross weight: approx. 103.6 grams (3.3ozt) Further details: enamel in good condition, minor wear but no loss, tarnishing to silver, some slight wear and loss to gilding inside.
CHARLES DICKENS POCKET WATCH, gifted from Bentleys Miscellany: a William IV gilt metal open faced key wind pocket watch, the fusee movement signed 'William Tyas London, No. 12067, 45mm diameter engine turned dial, the case engraved to reverse 'Dearest Boz editor Bentleys Miscellany Dec.1836', the initials CD to left and right of centre. A highly emotive and particularly early piece of Dickens memorabilia, given to him at the close of the first year of the periodical's existence under his editorship. Concluding the serialisation of The Pickwick Papers the following year, Dickens went on to resign from his position as editor after falling out with Bentley in 1839.Lots 61-63 are from a deceased estate originating in the Portsmouth area. It seems likely that they originally belonged to Dickens' youngest daughter.Condition report: The watch winds and ticks, very minor rust to some parts, movement is clean, general wear to gilding, some wear to case commensurate with age. We do not have a certificate of authenticity with this lot.

The cartouche appears to have either split around the edge, or been added separately. Some light scratches and denting.

The pin does not fasten very securely. The hinge is broken on the back of the pocket watch. A hinge pin is present, but is misshapen. The fittings that hold the hinge pin in place are also misshapen.
