A highly emotive and particularly early piece of Dickens memorabilia, given to him at the close of the first year of the periodical's existence under  his editorship. Concluding the serialisation of The Pickwick Papers the following year, Dickens went on to resign from his position as editor after falling out with Bentley in 1839.Lots 61-63 are from a deceased estate originating in the Portsmouth area. It seems likely that they originally belonged to Dickens' youngest daughter.Condition report: The watch winds and ticks, very minor rust to some parts, movement is clean, general wear to gilding, some wear to case commensurate with age. We do not have a certificate of authenticity with this lot.
