ROYAL HORSE GUARDS, OFFICER'S ALBERT HELMET, CIRCA 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY the white metal skull with gilt brass oak leaf mount and (later) rose ear bosses, to leather and silk backed brass chin strap, the helmet plate with gilt laurel bordering the collar of the Order of the Garter and Guelphic Crown surmount, mounted to centre in cut silver star of the Order of the Garter set with pierced gilt HONI SOIT QUI MALY PENSE motto to blue enamel ground and centred by the Cross of St. George in red enamel, the gilt orb and white metal spike rising from and eight pointed star and set with (later) simulated red hair plume to gilt rose finial, green to red leather lining Condition generally good to fair. There is some small misshaping to the rose finial. The later red plume is slightly disheveled. There are three dents to the upper section of the skull (one left, two right - by the star and crown and thus effecting these areas of brass.) Another minor ding to reverse of the skull. The spike could do with being tightened. Other more minor wear as per use and age. Additional images now available.Note: Some components may possibly be later.

See the Royal Collection Trust. The enamel and stones are in excellent condition. The hinged cover closes tightly, and the interior mechanism functions correctly. Overall, it is in very good condition.
