The front of the case has a small dent and loss to enamels. The dial has missing bezel and glass.

FALMOUTH. 1805' , J. Hodge Helston Watch & Clockmaker paper label inside, the cases both hallmarked London 1805, 60mm.Currently running. The dial with hairline cracks at the hour and minute hands.

The white enamel dial with Roman numerals, minute track and outer seconds, blue steel start/stop centre sweep hand, subsidiary dial, the frosted movement with lever escapement and two polished steel hammers repeating on coiled gongs, numbered N979, the case with pushers for the repeat and chronograph at the 12 position, the case stamped 18c, the cuvette stamped 18c 0.755, the cuvette with engraved dedication dated DEC 1895, case front and back with monogram and armorial for the surname 'Coates', 50mm, total weight 118.7g.The monogram 'WHC' is for William Henry Coates (1863-1924). The cuvette is engraved "Presented by the Holden Family to W H Coates Esq MD as a token of gratituder and thanks for his skill and kindness to their mother Dec 1895". Further research provenance with the auctioneers.Lacks winding crown. We have heard the repeat striking the hour.

With a letter of provenance from Vacheron & Constantin, dated 1963, stating that their files show that the watch was maunfactured by them in 1805.Currently running. Hairline crack to the dial.

The 45mm white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and outer minute track, the movement with foliate engraved plate and pierced cock with diamond endstone, silvered regulating disc, signed Wm West St Ives 4694, with a stop side lever, the inner and outer case hallmarked London 1814, 60mm. A William West, St. Ives watchmaker, and his wife Joanna, are mentioned in a quitclaim deed of John Harvey, St Erth, St Gluvias and Stithians in 1816. Source Kresan Kernow, ref. CF/1/1160.
