These works, at times reminiscent of children's toys, were carried out in various materials and formats. Some of them incorporate jewellery or are themselves small enough to be worn as pendants or bracelets. Berrocal showed a talent for art and science early in his youth and often created his own playthings out of recycled materials or painted with pigments he mixed together himself. Among other places, he studied at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and the Escuela de Artes Graficas in Madrid, where he often visited the Museo del Prado in search of inspiration.
