Pair of London Transport enamel BUS STOP FLAGS (Compulsory and Request). E6-size, double-sided 'boat'-type flags of the type introduced in the early 1990s with two objectives: firstly to abandon the use of black lettering and secondly to 'purify' the roundel by removing wording from the bar which necessitated the request version to say 'Request Stop' under the roundel, omitting the word 'bus'. The flags were designed to take 'E-stickers' and 30 unused stickers are included. Flags measure 18" x 26" (46cm x 66cm) and are superb examples with only very minor blemishes. [2]
British Railways (Southern Region) enamel STATION TOTEM SIGN (fully flanged) from Aylesford station, on the former SER/SECR Medway Valley Line between Strood, Maidstone and Paddock Wood. A very scarce totem rarely seen at auction. Vendor obtained this from the station yard after the totems had been taken down. In excellent, ex-use condition with a few minor blemishes on the face. Flanges and reverse not cleaned since removal, mounting bracket still present. [1]
London Transport enamel BUS STOP FLAG (Request). An E6-size, double-sided 'boat'-type flag of the type introduced around 1980. Just a few of these, the very first, were fitted runners for e-plates, in this case 6 on each side. Shortly after the introduction of this type of flag, e-plates were abandoned and subsequent flags were designed to take stickers. Measures 18" x 26" (46cm x 66cm). A superb example in excellent condition with only very minor blemishes. A most uncommon variant. [1]
London Transport bus stop enamel E-PLATE for route 423 'Hospital & Works Only'. Probably one of a unique pair known to have been located at Dartford, Westgate Road in respect of a bifurcation of the 423 to serve Joyce Green Hospital and the factories. In good, ex-use condition, lightly weathered from a long period in situ. [1]
Pair of London Transport enamel BUS STOP FLAGS (Compulsory and Request). E6-size, double-sided 'boat'-type flags of the variant of the 1980s type that was introduced after 'E-stickers' replaced enamel E-plates. A selection of 16 unused stickers is included. Flags measure 18" x 26" (46cm x 66cm) and are superb examples with only very minor blemishes. [2]
1950s/60s London Transport enamel BUS & COACH STOP FLAG (Bus Compulsory, Coach Request). A double-sided, hollow 'boat'-style flag measuring 18" x 16" (46cm x 41cm). Small chips and blemishes on one side but in other respects in very good, ex-use condition with a strong shine. Comes with the original mountings for fitting to a lamppost. [1]
Pair of most unusual London Transport 1990s enamel BUS STOP FLAGS, the first an example lettered 'Bus Stand, Buses do not pick up passengers here' with a vinyl sticker regarding switching off engines (note the poor punctuation!) and the second just featuring a blank, red circle for showing a bus stop location letter. Both are double-sided, E3-size, traditional 'boat'-style flags measuring 18" x 21" (46cm x 53cm) and are in excellent condition with barely a blemish. [2]
1920s/30s London Underground enamel PLATFORM SIGN from Aldwych Station (formerly Strand) on the Piccadilly Line stub from Holborn that closed in 1994. Note the early form of Johnston 'W'. Signs from Aldwych are very uncommon indeed and this is the first we have seen at auction. A "shed find" by the vendor 60+ years ago. Measures 54" x 10" (137cm x 26cm) and would have been the bar from a bullseye. Has suffered some staining during decades of storage. [1]
Pair of London Transport enamel BUS STOP FLAGS (Compulsory and Request). E9-size, double-sided 'boat'-type flags of the type introduced in the early 1990s with two objectives: firstly to abandon the use of black lettering and secondly to 'purify' the roundel by removing wording from the bar which necessitated the request version to say 'Request Stop' under the roundel, omitting the word 'bus'. The flags were designed to take 'E-stickers' and 30 unused stickers are included. Flags measure 18" x 31" (46cm x 79cm) and are superb examples with only very minor blemishes. [2]
London Underground 38-Tube Stock enamel CAB DESTINATION PLATE for Bushey Heath / Finchley Cen on the Northern Line. Bushey Heath would have been the new northern terminus of the line had the extension proposed before WW2 taken place but this was abandoned with the introduction of the Green Belt. A double-sided plate with brass ends. Generally in very good ex-use condition, a little corrosion along the edges. [1]
