A South Staffordshire enamel candlestick, late 18th century, painted with figures, landscapes and floral panels, height 27cm, together with a Regency bronze pomander (2).Provenance:Michael Trethewey. A Gentleman of Taste.We are delighted to be selling in this sale and over forthcoming sales, items from the estate of the collector Michael Trethewey. Michael had an unerring eye for quality. He was a frequent visitor to these auction rooms, an elegantly dressed, unassuming man who bought well and had a singular passion for old-school antiques.
A Victorian Staffordshire dessert service decorated with flowers, comprising three comports and six dessert plates (9).Condition report: One comport has been broken off from the stand. Each plate is in used condition with many scratches to the glaze and the enamel. One plate is heavily worn.
An English porcelain triple inkstand, circa 1820, painted in an Imari palette and of trefoil shape, the pen holder modelled as a gilt fish, on disc feet, width 18cm, together with a campana form single inkwell (2).Provenance:Michael Trethewey. One well is probably associated and with a chip to the frill. One holder has a large hairline emanating from the edge and into the body. Edge chips. Wear to gilding and enamel decoration. Crazed to the base with body discolouration. The other well is missing it's lid. Generally good.
A Vienna regulator single weight wall clock, by Anton Mayer, circa 1850, the movement with white enamel dial and ornate gilt surround, contained in a restrained Biedermeier rosewood and boxwood strung case, with weight and key, height 87cm.Condition report: Lot 2903The case and dial are in good condition, with no evident damage. The catgut is broken so we have been unable to ascertain whether the clock is in working order.
