A vintage 18ct gold buttton wind half hunter pocket watch. The interior case is marked Omega for the maker and detailed by J W Benson. Seen working but condition not guaranteed. The white enamel dial is in generally good order, presenting black Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds hand.
A PAIR OF LARGE JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASES MEIJI 1868-1912 The tall baluster bodies both decorated in musen (wireless) and shosen (partially wireless) enamels with cranes, the birds standing by a stream and under a pine tree, with delicate pink flowers and wasurenagusa (forget-me-nots) to the side, on a dusky pink ground, with thin bands of key frets to the rims, unsigned, 61.5cm. (2) Provenance: The Collection of Sir Jeremy Lever. Cranes and pines are symbols of longevity in Japanese art. The birds also signify marital bliss and together with the forget-me-nots ('true love'), they make for a very auspicious and romantic design.
A GOOD AND LARGE JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL TRAY IN THE STYLE OF NAMIKAWA SOSUKE MEIJI 1868-1912 The square body decorated with a central scene of an egret in flight above crashing waves, the sky and water depicted in musen (wireless) and shosen (partially wireless) enamels, the rim with a continuous band of many seashells and seaweed, the reverse with an unusual pattern of waves and flowerheads and the rim with further flowers and scrolling tendrils, 29.4cm.
A SMALL JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL INCENSE BURNER AND COVER IN THE STYLE OF HAYASHI HACHIZAEMON, KORO MEIJI 1868-1912 The bulbous body raised on three short feet, decorated with three pentalobed panels containing birds and flowering branches, on a russet ground inlaid with a multitude of wires applied in tight spirals, the lid with two cloisonn? butterflies on a similar ground, unsigned, 8.5cm. (2) Provenance: the collection of an English gentleman, acquired from Spink. Cf. F T Schneider, The Art of Japanese Cloisonn? Enamel, p.C-30 fig.120, for a small vase by Hayashi Hachizaemon featuring a comparable decoration of raised enamels above a ground of spirals on a copper body. A SMALL JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASE BY NAMIKAWA YASUYUKI (1845-1927) MEIJI 1868-1912 The ovoid body decorated with a delicate design of a small lemon-yellow butterfly fluttering above irises and other flowers, on a dark midnight-blue ground, with a silver rim and foot, the base with four chiselled cursive characters on a silver plaque reading Kyoto Namikawa, 8cm.
A JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASE AND COVER IN THE STYLE OF NAMIKAWA YASUYUKI (1845-1927) MEIJI 1868-1912 The short ovoid body decorated with a continuous band of flowers and birds in flight, with lobed panels to the shoulder and above the foot containing scrolling tendrils, stylised flowers, formal birds and butterflies, the cover with a chrysanthemum-shaped knop and mirroring the decoration of the body, unsigned, 8.5cm. A JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASE IN THE STYLE OF NAMIKAWA YASUYUKI (1845-1927) MEIJI 1868-1912 The tall baluster body densely decorated with silver wires and coloured enamels, with lappets around the waist enclosing stylised dragons and phoenix, a band of diamond-shaped patterns above, the upper half with butterflies and flowerheads amongst karakusa scrolls and shaped panels of flowers to the shoulder, the neck and foot with further lappets and silver mounts, unsigned, together with a small wood stand, 15.5cm. A GOOD JAPANESE SILVER, BRONZE AND ENAMEL VASE MEIJI 1868-1912 The bulbous body raised on three shaped feet and with a tall flared neck, decorated with a continuous scene of many cockerels, hens and chicks amid ferns and flowers, all applied on a buff ground and depicted in colourful enamels, the foot and neck with formal designs of flowerheads and scrolling tendrils in cloisonn? enamels, the base signed Tomomi in a rectangular cartouche, 28.2cm. Provenance: a private English collection, Wiltshire. Acquired from Percy Bates of 53 St Ann Street, Salisbury, on 14th July 1965. A copy of the original invoice is available.
A JAPANESE SATSUMA BOWL MEIJI 1868-1912 The well richly decorated with shaped cartouches containing boys at play, beauties and children in an interior and houses by a river before Mount Fuji, all surrounded by radiating panels of butterflies, flowerheads and brocade patterns, the outside with a continuous scene depicting further beauties and children, a band of flowers and birds underneath, a two character mark to the base, 15.3cm dia.; together with a small plique-?-jour enamel vase with ho-ho birds in flight amongst flowers, the base marked Kume for Kumeno Tetaro of Nagoya (1865-1939), 12cm. A CHINESE IMPERIAL YELLOW-GROUND 'DRAGON' BOWL SIX CHARACTER KANGXI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1662-1722 Finely potted with the U-shaped body rising to an everted rim, the exterior decorated in green enamel with two incised five-clawed dragons pursuing flaming pearls amidst stylised flames and clouds, with a foliate border to the mouth rim and a band of interlaced ruyi-heads around the base, the well incised and painted with a shou character contained within a circular ring, 10.4cm. Provenance: from a European private collection, purchased in China c.1930. Cf.
