III.17.19, Phil IV. 7',brooch height 6.5cmCondition: Brooch - un-cased, lacking pearl drop to bottom, enamel in generally good order, some rubbing/ wear. Crown with rubbed gilt revealing white metal. The 'Star of Snowdoun' brooches were commissioned by William Drummond of Sterling for the female members of his family. They were presented at the time of the inauguration of the Drummond funded Virgin Martyrs' Memorial sculpture located in The Valley Cemetery, Sterling. The memorial commemorates the 'Wigtown Martyrs' or 'Solway Martyrs' -Margaret Wilson, her sister Agnes, and Margaret McLauchlin. The two Margaret's were put to death during the 1680s for their religious beliefs and refusal to swear an oath of allegiance to James VII of Scotland (James II). The symbolism within the design including the three forget-me-nots, are in reference to the three women, For further reading see 'A History of Sterling in 100 Objects' by Elspeth King.

A yellow and white metal enamelled brooch in the form of the Holy Spirit and Sacred Heart, a dove carrying a heart in its beak, both enamelled in blue and inset with diamond to the back wings and tail of the bird and three in the heart, totalling fifteen diamonds, length 3.7cm, approx 4.5g, in original box, retailed by Parkes of Regent Street. CONDITION REPORT No missing stones, strong fastening/clasp The stones test as diamonds The metal is unmarked and not tested but would be unusual for the diamonds in base metal A small area of the blue enamel is damaged to the top of the birds head, the quality and the cut of diamonds, style of brooch is indicative of Belle Époque era, late 180/1914. The original box also would date it to the early 1900s.

JAPY FRÈRES; a 19th century French champlevé enamelled gilt, brass mantel clock, the gilt dial set with Roman numerals and flanked by cherubic figural columns, further surmounted by a cherub, to stepped socle base and turned feet, raised on a separate velvet-lined gilt-heightened base, height 50cm (af). There is some rubbing to the gilt finish on the body of the clock and some verdigris showing through some areas of enamel. The rear lens on the door to the movement is cracked and the bezel for that door is a dulled finish, rather than gilt brass like the rest of it. Otherwise good condition. The movement ticks when wound, though this is no guarantee of working order. The back plate of the movement is stamped with the maker's name just off-centre, it is further stamped '999' to the left hand side and '55' to the lower edge.
