20thc, the enamel dial with gilt numerals and striking on a bell, the elaborate case with various birds including a Parrot and Cockatoo, two birds with a nest and various applied flowers and leaves. On a rococo style base and with a key, 'Blue Crossed Swords' mark to the reverse, and impressed numbers 60817. 32cms high. ** Two leaves are loose and you can see where they have come off, there is some wear around one of the winding holes. Overall, it seems to have survived well considering the way it is constructed.
An unusual 19thc Chinese Canton enamel incense burner or possibly a spittoon (zhadou), of circular shape with various flowers and character marks within circular panels. With mask handles to each side (one ring missing), and with a lift off lid and opening to the base. Some damages, 20cms diameter. ** There are various damages to the enamel including a part of the base, underside and interior. Ring missing from handle, brass roundels on the lid dented, rim of base dented.
A late 19thC beech cased miniature longcase clock, circular brass dial with enamel chapter ring bearing Arabic numerals, eight day movement with bell strike, the case with a shaped hood, glass fronted door and base with painted paterae, raised on bracket feet, with pendulum and key, 46cm high.

A Great War 1918 French Theatre D.C.M. Medaille Militaire group of six, awarded to Sergeant W T Gibbs 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal G.V.R (9850 Cpl. W. T. Gibbs. 1/S, Wales Bord.), 1914 Star, with clasp (9580 Pte. W. T. Gibbs, S. Wales Bord.), British War and Victory Medals (9580 Cpl. W. T. Gibbs. S.Wales Bord.), Army L.S. & G.C. G.V.R. 2nd issue with fixed suspension (3902236 Sjt. W. T. Gibbs. D.C.M. S.Wales Bord.), France, Third Republic, Medaille Militaire, silver, silver gilt and enamel, with trophy of arms suspension, worn. (6). Notes: Medaille Militaire: London Gazette 10 October 1918, D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During very severe fighting this N.C.O. who was in charge of stretcher-bearers, set a very fine example of courage and self sacrifice in the face of danger, moving about in the open during all the fighting, to ensure that the stretcher-bearers dealt with the casualties. He was working in this manner for over twelve hours, not withstanding shell fire of an intense description, and the fact that he himself had been knocked over by the explosion of a shell close to him.' William Thomas Gibbs, born 6th June at Trevethin, Monmouthshire, was a native of Caerau, Bridgend (London Gazette Records). He enlisted in the South Wales Borderers in July 1907, and served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion on the Western Front from 22 August 1914. Sgt William Gibbs transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1919, only to re-enlist in August of the same year as 3902236. He served with the Home Battalion until discharged at Portsmouth in 1931. Gibbs died 12th August 1953, having married with two sons and a daughter, in Gosport, Hampshire. EX DNW 17th Sept 2020. NB.
