Local Railway Interest, a rare Winegarten's Railway Regulator nickel cased open face keyless pocket watch circa 1930. The white enamel dial signed 'Winegartens 145, Bishopsgate, London E.C.2' and with black painted Roman numerals, blued-steel 'spade' hands and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6, the 56.5mm diameter three-piece screw case with an oval back panel engraved with a train in full steam within 'Winegarten's Railway Regulator', Swiss 15 jewel movement, Cal.526, signed 'Winegartens Superfine'; together with two curb link watch chains. Note This watch was formerly the working property of Francis William Frederick Banwell, known as Frank, an engine driver for LMS (London, Midland & Scottish Railway). He was initially based in Highbridge, Somerset from about 1924, later moving his work base to Wells and driving on the old Somerset and Dorset line affectionately known locally as the 'Slow & Dirty'. In 1962 he was made redundant under the Beeching reforms and restructure of the then nationalised railway system. Condition Report: We do not guarantee any watch for accuracy. The oval jet two-piece locket with base metal hinge and internal fittings, the front with an applied gold shield depicting a Latin cross within laurel leaves and set with half-pearls, approx. 49mm high x 39mm wide (61mm including the black-painted metal suspension loop; currently hung from a black-velvet ribbon Condition Report: Overall very good condition for age, general wear and tear commensurate with age and use. The whole locket would benefit from a clean. The suspension loop shows some wear and tear through use particularly at the back where the enamel is worn 'through' to the metal beneath, though this does not show from the front. The locket snaps shut with a satisfying 'snick'

The white enamel dial inscribed 'G.W.R. 03289' and with black Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds at 6, the 54mm diameter three-piece screw case engraved on the back 'G.W.R.' over '03289', the Swiss 15 jewel movement marked 'Limit No.2' Condition Report: We do not gurantee any watch for accuracy. Not running, the balance appears to oscillate freely, however there is an issue with winding, hence requires a full overhaul.
An Austro-Hungarian .900 standard silver and blue guilloche enamelled rectangular box. The hinged cover with floral-pierced panels at the corners and centre and a niello decorated bevelled edge, the sides and base also blue guilloche enamelled, Austro-Hungarian 900 standard mark and another possibly a maker's mark not traced, 1.25cm high , 9cm wide, 6cm deep (1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 3/8ths inches), 157g gross (5 ozs) Condition Report: The first thing I was told when getting it is ' isn't it stunningly lovely ?' Overall very good condition for age, general light wear and tear commensurate with age and use. There are no obvious chips to the enamel though the right front corner side panel has a very small chip and a few hair-line cracks, not through to the base and only mentioned for completeness. The base of the box has general overall scuffing, particularly around the middle, where it has been moved around on a surface over a long period of time. The box would benefit from a clean a a little tlc !
