A Chinese Famille Rose Buddhist emblem altar ornament, well modelled and enamelled in bright tones in the form of a circular openwork medallion enclosing one of the Eight Buddhist Emblems ( bajixiang ), depicting a fish (a symbol of marriage, conjugal felicity, fertility, tenacity) sitting atop a lotus pod with recessed seeds nestled in a lotus blossom raised on a pierced stem, the whole raised on a domed base painted with petals and covered in turquoise enamel on the interior enclosing an iron red Daoguang six character mark, 30cm high ??????????????

A CHINESE OVAL ENAMEL PLAQUE QIANLONG 1736-95 Decorated in famille rose enamels depicting Vertumnus and Pomona watched by Cupid, the concave side painted en grisaille with Venus and Cupid, 7.2cm. Vertumnus, the god of the seasons, possessed the ability to alter his form at will. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, he tricked Pomona into talking to him by using this power to disguise himself as an old woman. After gaining entry to her orchard, Vertumnus warned Pomona of the dangers of rejecting a suitor in order to seduce her.
A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ENAMEL BOXES AND COVERS LATE QING DYNASTY Each with a compressed circular body raised on a flared waisted foot, painted with cartouches containing various figures in landscapes against a blue ground with dense decoration of flowers, fruit, fans and scrolls, six character Qianlong seal marks to the bases, 22.5cm. (4) Provenance: formerly in the collection of Henry Cahill Sheridan, Assistant Director General of the Indian Post Service, acquired c.1900.
A LARGE JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL VASE MEIJI 1868-1912 The bulbous body decorated on one side with three egrets amongst reeds on a robin's egg ground, the other side with a single bird, the base signed Nagoya Hattori, 33cm. This design was possibly made after a print by Ohara Koson (1877-1945) who produced many comparable depictions of egrets in tall grasses.
