John Maltby (b.1936) Studio stoneware relief-moulded panel of boat at full-sail coming towards harbour with lighthouse and buildings on shore, stylised scrolling clouds and roundel decoration, raised monogram, oxidised glaze, surmounted on painted wooden panel and inscribed on reverse "Boat entering harbour, John Maltby", panel 9cm x 32cm, 17.5cm x 40cm overall John Maltby born in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire 1936 studied Goldsmiths College, London. After a brief spell teaching went to work with David Leach at Bovey Travey from 1962 to 64 after which he set up his own workshop in Devon. His work can be seen in numerous public collections. His work can be characterised by the use of oxidised stoneware and enamel glazes.
