A Mid-Late XIX Century French Wall Clock, the white enamel dial inscribed "Chevassy a Reichelieu" with black Roman numerals within a puce border, the brass surround cast with figures amongst sacks of hay and flowers, large brass pendulum (later), two weights, wall bracket and winding key, verge movement, face 39cm long, pendulum 100cm long.

A Garnet, Diamond and Enamel Ring, the round cabochon carbuncle garnet to eight radial arms set throughout with rose cut diamonds, overlaid upon an oval blue enamel plaque, to a plain polished shank, shank stamped '14K', finger size M, with accompanying photograph dated 1958The ring is in fair condition with evidence of lead solder to the reverse and wear commensurate with age. It appears to have been adapted from another piece of jewellery. Gross weight 15.9 grams.

A GEORGE III SILVER CASED VERGE POCKET WATCH WITH ENGINE-TURNED DECORATION BENJAMIN WOOD, LONDON, 1760 The gilt full plate single fusee movement with four square section baluster pillars pinned through the backplate, scroll-pierced stop-iron block and verge escapement regulated by sprung three-arm steel balance with Tompion type regulation, the backplate with fine symmetrical foliate scroll pierced and engraved balance cock with grotesque mask at the junction with the conforming pierced and engraved foot, flanked by silvered regulation disc set within adjacent applied scroll engraved panel infill opposing signature Ben, Wood, London and numbered 12143, the slightly convex white enamel Roman numeral dial with winding square to centre, Arabic five minutes to outer track and gilt spade hands, the silver case with unusual deeply cut star-centred spiral engine-turned decoration to rear and conforming hatched decoration to bezel, fitted with suspension post and bow at twelve o'clock and a convex glass to bezel, the interior with hallmarks for London 1760 maker HT. The pillar plate 3.3cm (1.25ins) diameter, the case 4.5cm (1.75ins) diameter. Benjamin Wood is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working before 1769. The case of the present watch is notable in that it is a relatively early example of English engine-turned decoration which was becoming increasingly fashionable at this time. Indeed three years after the current watch was made Josiah Wedgwood acquired a rose engine in order to execute similar engine-turned decoration onto his ceramics. Cornelius Johnson (1593 - 1661) Portrait of Frances Howard (later Carr), Countess of Somerset (1590 - 1632) The Countess of Somerset was the daughter of Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk. She married firstly Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex, and secondly Robert Carr, 1st Earl of Somerset. The lady in half length, wearing a red dress and a white lace collar and cuffs, with intricate chains decorated with enamel and pearl floral motifs Oil on panel Provenance: Sotheby's, British Paintings 1500-1850, 10 November 1993, Lot 14, where purchased by the present owner Cornelius Johnson (1593-1661), also known as Cornelius Janssens van Ceulen, was born in London to Dutch parents. Johnson’s career flourished in both countries, and reflected the cultural and artistic exchanges of the era. Johnson’s portraits can be characterised by a meticulous attention to detail and a keen sensitivity to the character of his sitters, capturing the essence of his subjects with remarkable intimacy and realism. Johnson’s mastery of technique, influenced by both Dutch and English artistic traditions, consolidated his position amongst the elite circles of society, and his patrons regularly included members of the royal court.
