Fine Victorian silver and enamel novelty vesta case in the form of a sentry box, with hinged cover, the front enamelled with an image of a Grenadier Guardsman, the back with engraved monogram MH and one side engraved "Lieut-Colonel Heneage". (London 1886) Sampson Mordan. Registered No 38283. 6cm overall height.Possibly Lieut-Colonel Michael Walker Heneage (1835 - 1906), who served with the Coldstream Guards in the Crimean War, present at Balaklava and took part in the Battle of Inkerman and served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol. Awarded Crimea medal with 3 clasps, The Turkish Medal and order of Medjidie 5th class. His brother, Major Clement Heneage-Walker 8th Hussars, won the VC at the Battle of Gwalior in 1858.This vesta is one of a series of silver and enamel vesta cases depicting "Soldiers of the Queen" produced by Sampson Mordan around the time of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887.
Victorian silver purse/aide memoir of rectangular form, the cover, with enamelled scene of abbey ruins, leather interior with stamp compartments, ivory writing tablet, and silver pencil, in original Elkington & Co fitted case (Marks rubbed) 9.7cm across.Condition report: General overall condition good, enamelled scene is scratched all over and enamel is slightly damaged at top centre edge. Silver has surface scratching and some minor denting. Marks on both case and pencil are rubbed and illegible. Engraved monogram on rear panel is crisp. Interior is good, some minor scuffing to leather. Silver pencil is scratched and tip is split where lead protrudes, mechanism turns but lead does not move. We cannot confirm lead size. Case is good, some surface wear to velvet, interior is dirty.

Victorian Etruscan revival gold enamel and cabochon garnet pendant brooch, the central oval cabochon garnet surrounded by a beaded gold border, Greek key and classical motifs in blue and white champlevé enamel, glazed locket compartment to reverse, with matching detachable pendant drop. 75mm x 48mmCondition report: The principal brooch measures approximately 48mm x 40mm. In very good condition commensurate with age and wear. Enamel decoration is perfect. The back of the brooch has a small tear/hole near the hinge which has probably been caused by the pin being pushed too far back when open. The pin is not gold. Otherwise in very good original condition. Cabochon garnet in good condition and measure approximately 17mm x 10.5mm. Not hallmarked but tests as approximately 9-15ct gold.The smaller pendant drop - also in very good original condition commensurate with age, enamel decoration is perfect but very grubby. Measures approximately 37mm x 22mm. The jump ring has been added.Total gross weight approximately 19.03 grams

Fine 19th century gold locket and necklace, the large oval gold locket with applied diamond, pearl and blue enamel fleur de lys and ermin tail design, referencing royal connections, suspended from an articulated collar with stylized lotus flowers and concealed clasp.Provenance: Formerly the property of the late Lady Mildred Steele, better known as Mildred Shay (1911-2005) who was a famous American film actress and socialite in the 1930s and known as the "Pocket Venus" by Hollywood gossip columnists, known for affairs, marriages and glamorous social life. By repute, this necklace was a gift from Empress Eugenie of France to her friend's daughter prior to her marriage to Lieutenant-Colonel George Frederick Steele who was Lady Mildred Steele's grandfather-in-law.Condition report: Total weight= approximately 76.2gLength of necklace including the locket- 21cmMeasurement of oval locket including suspension hoop- 65mm x 40mm. Necklace fits perfectly around a 15” neck.No hallmarks. A few small dents to the back of the locket and some light surface scratching commensurate with age. A few small dents to the backs of the lotus flower links and some dirt on the links which can be cleaned. Locket shuts firmly, safety chain appears to have broken off. Concealed clasp works and fits securely. Overall good condition.
