A silver verge watch, signed Willm. Mills, London, no. 2487 winding through the cream enamel dial, in a case with shield engraved to back, London 1826, 49mm dia; and a hunting cased silver verge watch, unsigned, with silver dial and gold serpentine hands, in a guilloche case, London 1834. (2)

A large multi-dialled verge movement now mounted in a Sedan type case, signed on the foot of the large balance cock, the 3in white enamel dial with concentric minute ring and four subsidiaries for hours, moonphase, seconds and fifths of a second, bezel of alternating white and pink paste brilliants, in a moulded circular bronze case surmounted by ribbon and foliate swags, 7.5in (19cm) h, movement circa 1790.

A gilt brass corniche cased carriage clock, with alarm and with a platform lever escapement, striking on a bell, one hammer broken, the back with parrot trademark and numbered 9381, to a white enamel dial with subsidiary alarm bell, 6.25in (16cm) h, and a gilt brass carriage timepiece. Lawrence, Frederick George, was born 21 Aug. 1874, son of the late Hugh M. Lawrence. He was gazetted Second Lieutenant in the South Wales Borderers 10 Oct. 1894, and became Lieutenant 15 Nov. 1896. He served in South Africa, 1899-1902: as Railway Staff Officer 14 Jan. to 4 March, 1900, and 5 March, 1900 to 18 Aug, 1902, in Cape Colony, Orange River Colony and the Transvaal; was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette, 10 Sept. 1901); received the Queen’s Medal with three clasps, the King’s Medal with two clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (London Gazette, 26 June, 1902); Frederick George Lawrence, Lieut., South Wales Borderers. In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa, he was invested by the King on 24 Oct. 1902. He was Adjutant, 3rd South Wales Borderers, Brecon, 1 Sept. 1902 to 13 Sept. 1905; was promoted to Captain 3 March, 1906; was Officer, Company of Gentleman Cadets, Royal Military College, 1 Feb. 1910 to 31 Jan. 1914. He served in the European War; was promoted to Major 28 April 1915; held a Special Appointment, G.H.Q., B.E.F., 23 Oct. 1915 to 31 March, 1916; Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel 1 April to 20 Aug. 1916; D.A.Q.M.G., 4th Army, British Armies in France, 19 Nov. 1916 to 28 Jan 1917; A.Q.M.G., 15th Army Corps, British Armies in France, 29 Jan to 15 Sept. 1917. (L.G.28th May 1918), mounted for wearing Company Serjeant Major Alfred Pearce, DCM, Regimental No. 6 , Welsh Guards, late 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards. Distinguished Conduct Medal Citation. 6 C./S./M. A. Pearce, 1st Bn. W. Gds. (Bristol) (LG 3 Sept 1919) ‘He has served as company serjeant-major since August 1915, in the field, and has always shown the greatest keenness and devotion to duty. On the 25th February, 1918 at Roeux he displayed the greatest gallantry and initiative in taking forward under cover of darkness a Lewis gun into No Man’s Land, and at dawn opening fire on an enemy machine gun which had been causing great annoyance to our working parties. His fire was so heavy and accurate that the enemy were forced to relinquish their post and retire over the open, five of them being shot whilst doing so’, The Army Rifle Association-Roberts Cup (Corpl.
