Albarelo "faixes i cintes". Catalonia, 18th century.Ceramic.Presents restorations.Measurements: 30 x 11 cm.Albarelo made of ceramic, decorated on the exterior face with a vegetal composition in blue enamel, placed on a white covering. This decoration reflects the technical skill and sensitivity of the craftsmen, the European and Eastern influences and the successive technical innovations that gave the work of the Catalan potters a unique character. As for the technique used, despite its monochrome nature, the use of cobalt blue applied in different gradations produces a large number of shades which, in turn, contrast with the white tonality used as the base of the piece. The series known as the "faixas i cintes" (bands and belts) was developed in Catalan ceramic workshops during the 18th century, and is a blue series that usually features motifs of boats, animals and landscapes.

Los 63

Catalan albarello with French influence, 18th century.Ceramics.The polychromy is missing. With old restorations.Measurements: 30 x 12 cm.Albarelo or pharmacy jar made in ceramic and decorated with cobalt blue enamel on white tin engobe. It has a typical 18th-century shape, narrower towards the centre. It has a central cartouche with mitred curves, which houses the inscription indicating its contents, and a highly decorative vegetal background.

Liquor set; Bohemia, ca. 1850.Blown and carved glass.Measurements: 30.5 cm diameter of the tray; 40.5 cm height of the decanter; 16.5 cm height of the glasses.Set consisting of a circular tray, a decanter and six glasses, all made of enamelled and carved glass. The pieces are made of translucent blown red glass and then covered with an opaque white enamel. As is characteristic of Bohemian glass, the decoration is carved in a rough-cut manner, with the gallons combined with garlands of grape leaves, a motif often used in liqueur sets. When the decorations are carved, the white enamel is lifted, so that they are left in reserve; the motifs are in red on a white background, emphasised by the relief and also by the chromaticism.

Los 26

Catalan albarello of French influence, 19th century.Blue glazed ceramic. The base is chipped. Slight lack of polychromy.Measurements: 27.5 (height) x 12 cm (diameter).Albarelo made of ceramic, decorated on the outside with a vegetal composition in blue enamel, on a white setting. This decoration reflects the technical skill and sensitivity of the craftsmen, the European and Eastern influences and the successive technical innovations that gave the work of Spanish potters a unique character. As for the technique used, despite its monochrome nature, the use of cobalt blue applied in different gradations produces a large number of shades which, in turn, contrast with the white shade used as the base of the piece.

Los 24

Albarelo de Talavera from the 19th century.Ceramics.It has some slight chipping and very slight flaws in the polychromy.Measurements: 24,5 x 11 cm.Albarelo or pharmacy jar made in Talavera ceramics and decorated with cobalt blue enamel on white tin engobe. It has a typical 18th-century shape, narrowing towards the centre. Its front includes a heraldic motif topped by a crowned double-headed eagle.Of Muslim origin, Talavera de la Reina ceramics acquired industrial importance from the 16th century onwards. Mentioned by Cervantes, Lope de Vega and Tirso de Molina, Talavera earthenware can also be documented in much of Spanish Baroque painting. Used by nobles and the humble, its commercial monopoly was in constant conflict with Sevillian earthenware. One of the architects of the recovery of Spanish Talavera ceramics was Juan Niveiro with the founding of the "El Carmen" factory; the incorporation of workers brought from Manises meant another important change in its decorative series. Changes that would reinforce the tricolour series produced by another emerging pottery factory in the mid-19th century: "La Menora". The earthenware and tiles produced in Talavera de la Reina (Castilla La Mancha, Spain) throughout its five centuries of recognised ceramic tradition have generated such a rich and varied typology that a classification into series proposed since the end of the 19th century by different specialists has been necessary in order to facilitate their study and cataloguing.

Los 17

Vase; Manises, 19th century.Ceramic.Measurements: 50 x 28 x 28 cm; With base: 112 x 40 x 40 cm.Ceramic vase with different ornamental motifs, dominated by the presence of Arabic motifs in silver and blue. The piece has the classic colours used by the Manises factory, such as cobalt blue. This colour scheme, introduced by Islamic potters in medieval Spain together with the metallic lustre and the green and manganese style, appeared in Paterna at the end of the Middle Ages, and would be the most characteristic throughout Europe until the first half of the 18th century, when the secret of porcelain was discovered. The blue and white decoration was an attempt to imitate Chinese porcelain, which the Arabs were familiar with and used to make. Paterna was, along with Manises, the great centre of Islamic-influenced Hispanic ceramics, so it is not unusual for this new style to have its beginnings here. The blue glaze used by the Chinese is cobalt, a high-temperature glaze, which is why it is always applied under the glaze. In Islamic and Hispano-Muslim ceramics it will be called 'alsafra', a word derived from the Arabic word for cobalt. In the last quarter of the 14th century it began to be used in Paterna, and gradually replaced the green and manganese decorated series in these potteries. From this time onwards, the source of inspiration was no longer Muslim ceramics, but Chinese porcelain, with three firings: one for the paste, another for the white slip and finally the third for the enamel, the colours and the glaze. The decoration, on the other hand, becomes more abstract, and in the case of pieces with figurative decoration, this will only have half-length figures, with less defined backgrounds and a lesser spatial sense. They will be objects decorated with very linear lines.
