The lid interior lined in cream silk with central cord bow and cord edge, the lower section flush fitted in cream velvet, the gold tools with black and white enamel panels of scrolling foliage and flowers comprising an elaborate needle case, a pair of steel bladed scissors, a thimble and a faceted steel shafted stiletto, the case 12.2 x 7.7 x 3.2cms.
A rare Palais Royal small format sewing box, circa 1830, the case of sarcophagol form raised on bun feet and covered in red leather, the top incorporating a fine bead work panel of a figure by a house in a rural landscape within an outer border of flowers. The interior with mirror lined lid in fancy cord border, the lower section fitted with a rectangular mother of pearl needle case with gilt metal and enamel pansy motif, a gold mounted reel, a thimble with pansy motif and gilt metal frieze borders, a stiletto with pansy motif, a bodkin, a pair of steel scissors with gilt metal mounts to mother of pearl feather arms below oval loops, and a snowflake thread winder in mirror base circular compartment, complete with silk squab, the leather hinge very worn and detached. The lid interior with inset mirror in corded surround over a flush fitted tray in cream and blue velvet, the mother of pearl fittings comprising a rectangular needle case with gilt metal and enamel pansy motif inscribed 'Souvenir D'amitie', a thimble with gilt wire bordered frieze and enamel and gilt metal pansy motif, a set of four snowflake thread winders in circular mirror base compartments, a stiletto with gold shield motif, a pair of steel bladed scissors with cornucopia carved arms (blade points apart), a pair of reels, a bodkin, a tweezer / tooth pick / earspoon, a tambour hook, a single steel bladed folding knife, a letter knife with inset gold shield and a cut glass scent bottle complete with internal stopper but with loss to the metal screw top. The lower section of the box fitted with a musical box below a silk covered card, the comb complete but spring inoperative and with two pearl button form operating catches to the front of the box, two small chips to veneer on left base side of box, 21.6 x 14.7 x 7cms.
An attractive late 18th Century gilt metal and enamel mounted chatelaine with accessories, the scroll pierced hook mount with an oval enamel plaque of a young girl seated reading a book (small loss to top and cracking around one claw) over a hinge mount to three further gilt mounted enamel oval panels supporting an elaborate gilt metal etui decorated with panels of a male angel amid flowers and 'C' scrolls. The contents comprising a small gilt spoon, gilt pistol grip folding knife, gilt bodkin, and a further bodkin, all but last seemingly original with one vacant aperture for scissors. The hinged mount flanked by two short chains one supporting a leaf scroll decorated needle case, the other a floral decorated thimble case, 23.5cms max.
