Six pairs of George V silver gilt and enamel fruit eaters, mark of Turner & Simpson Ltd., Birmingham 1928, each handle decorated with sky blue guilloché and white enamel, presented in a convex fronted black and gilt tooled fitted case lined in cream satin and velvet, 8.8ozt grossOverall in good condition with no obvious signs of repair. Some light surface scratches as to be expected and commensurate with age and use. Hallmarks a little indistinct, particularly the maker's mark, but still readable. Very minor loss of the enamelling to one fork (see image 9), but no further obvious losses or damage to the enamel. Gilding in good order. Case a little scruffy and scratched to the outer, but still in good order inside.

A late 19th century Austro-Hungarian metalwares silver powder box, mark of Georg Adam Scheid (1882-1903), Dianakopf 2nd standard mark for 900/1000 standard silver, Vienna, additionally stamped 900 together with German import marks, of square form with cut corners, decorated to the sides with fine engine turned engraving, fully marked piano hinged cover similarly decorated within an inner border of lime green guilloché enamel and an outer border of foliage over a textured ground, gilded interior, 8 x 8cm, 3cm high, 5.5ozt Georg Adam Scheid was born in 1838 at Schönau Baden, Germany. He was apprenticed at 16 and in 1858, he travelled to Vienna to work for the goldsmith, Michael Markowitsch. Scheid partnered with Markowitsch in 1862 and the firm was renamed Markowitsch & Scheid. They became famous for their exquisite silver creations.Scheid later ended the partnership and launched his own firm, G. A. Scheid. The business was so successful that at its height he was employing nearly three hundred craftsmen. As well as being a talented silversmith and artist, Scheid was also an astute businessman. In 1888, he opened his own refinery where precious metal wastes could be recycled and reused. The plant was so productive that it more than met the company’s requirements, so he exported the rest of the refined precious metals all over the world. He died in 1912, though the company continued to trade.World War I had a devastating effect on the company, closing the manufacturing arm of the business, though the refinery continued to trade. In 1962, the refinery was merged with Ludwig Roessler GmbH which led to the founding of Ögussa GmbH.
