A Collection of Three Ringscomprising an opal and diamond ring, an amethyst and diamond ring, and an enamel, diamond and sapphire ring; mounted in 14k and 18k gold; estimated total diamond weight: 1.35cts; sizes: 6 to 6 1/2Footnotes:Property from the Collection of Edward and Mildred Lewis, Los Angeles, CABonhams is honored to offer property from the collection of Hollywood legends Edward and Mildred Lewis during the Spring of 2020. A producer, writer and screenwriter, Edward Lewis is perhaps best known as producer of the blockbuster Universal Pictures production Spartacus, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards and a BAFTA Award. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film's all-star cast included Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons and Charles Laughton. To write the screenplay, Lewis secretly enlisted Dalton Trumbo, one of the Hollywood Ten who had been blacklisted as part of Senator Joseph McCarthy's House Un-American Activities Committee investigations into communism among members of the entertainment industry. Although Trumbo had written other screenplays under pseudonyms while blacklisted, Spartacus was among the first to break the stigma of the Hollywood Ten, as Lewis insisted on including Trumbo in the film credits. Edward Lewis had produced Spartacus at the suggestion of his wife, Mildred, who was a producer and writer in her own right. Mildred Lewis was largely responsible for bringing a film to life that captured the zeitgeist of 1970s experimentation and defined both the 'dark comedy' and the 'sleeper'. That film was Harold and Maude, written by Colin Higgins, who at the time was the Lewis' pool boy. Higgins introduced the script to Mildred Lewis, who ultimately served as the film's executive producer. Edward and Mildred were partners in both work and life. During their 73 year marriage, they collaborated on numerous film, theater and literary projects. Together, the couple produced the 1982 film Missing, which received four Academy Award nominations, five Golden Globe nominations and seven BAFTA nominations, and shared the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. They also co-wrote the ground-breaking 1977 film Brothers. In addition to their work in entertainment, Edward and Mildred were active in civil rights causes and were passionate art collectors. Bonhams is delighted to offer a selection of pieces from the Lewis' collection throughout the coming months.

A Fine and Rare Gent's Stainless Steel Pre-Moon Omega So-Called 'Ed White' Speedmaster Chronograph Wristwatch, ref. 105.003, 1963, (calibre 321) 17 jewel lever movement signed and numbered 20,522,860, column wheel chronograph, dust cover, matte finished black dial with luminous baton markers and outer seconds track, three dials for seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour registers, buttons in the band to operate chronograph, tachymeter bezel, screw-off case back with Speedmaster emblem, inside case back numbered S 105.003-63, on Omega stainless steel bracelet with deployant clasp numbered 1035 4/68, case 39mm wide, in Omega box. Together with an issue of Life Magazine, June 18 1965, covering 'The Glorious Walk in the Cosmos', Ed White's Space Walk. * The Speedmaster reference 105.003 is known among collectors as the ''Ed White'' model as it was the model worn by NASA Astronaut Edward Higgins ''Ed'' White (1930-1967) when he was the first American to walk in space in 1965. The watch is characterized by the straight lugs, no crown guards and just signed on the dial 'Omega Speedmaster' without the professional signature. CONDITION REPORT: The watch appears to be in excellent condition for its age. The crown winds smoothly and the time adjusts absolutely fine. The chronograph buttons work perfectly and all the dials are changing as they should. The dial and bezel have a good aged patina. When inspected very closely it appears that the counterweight end of the central chronograph hand has been retouched slightly with white paint/enamel. The crown is original. The Omega bracelet is dated '68 and has replacement end-links. A couple of the links are perhaps a little stretched but overall the condition is very good. Both the bracelet and watch case have fine surface scratches commensurate with age and use, but no major dents or deep scratches etc. The case back screws firmly shut. The watch movement appears quite clean and is running fine. The Omega box is in good condition. It is of similar age to the watch but I cannot say with certainty if it is the original. There are no papers.
