1818 Marriage of Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Princess Victoria (Queen Victoria's parents): a Coalport dish of lozenge shape decorated with central E monogram within a border of the Collar, George and Star of the Order of the Garter in gilt and enamel, the border attractively painted with roses and floral panels on a yellow ground and profusely gilded, 281 wide, restored * A Church Gresham pattern service by Coalport was presented to the Duke of Kent and his wife by the City of London on the occasion of their marriage (at Coburg on 29th May and at the Palace on 11th July 1818). Much of the service remains on display at Windsor Castle. Edward Augustus, fourth son of George III, was born on 2nd November 1767, he was created Duke of Kent and Strathearn on 23rd April 1799 and married in 1818 Princess Victoria Mary Louise, widow of Emich Charles reigning Prince of Leiningen, by whom he had a daughter Alexandrina Victoria born at Kensington Palace on 24th May 1819 and who ascended the throne as Queen Victoria on 20th June 1837. The Duke of Kent died 23rd January 1820 and the Duchess on 16th March 1861.
