John Maltby (b.1936) Studio stoneware figure group of man, woman and child aboard boat of stylised viking design, with geometric roundel design, oxidised glaze, raised monogram to top of boat, supported on wooden plinth, inscribed to base "Boat Family John Maltby 2012", 25cm high John Maltby born in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire 1936 studied Goldsmiths College, London. After a brief spell teaching went to work with David Leach at Bovey Travey from 1962 to 64 after which he set up his own workshop in Devon. His work can be seen in numerous public collections. His work can be characterised by the use of oxidised stoneware and enamel glazes.
