Jean Pierre Henri Elouis (French, 1755-1840/3) PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN, WEARING , A GREEN COAT, PATTERNED CREAM WAISTCOAT WITH GOLD PIPING AND WHITE CRAVAT, HIS HAIR POWDERED Watercolour on ivory, gold frame, the obverse with blue glass and white enamel border set with diamonds, the reverse with blue glass border (damaged), the central aperture with diamond initial `B`, laid on blue glass panel with plaited hair border, the reverse of the miniature faintly inscribed in pencil, `H Elouis/-/ - Street/ Philadelphia` Oval, 21/2in (64mm) high. Elouis was born in Caen, but by 1784 was enrolled in the R.A. Schools. In 1786, he won a silver medal and continued to exhibit at the R.A. until he went to America in 1787. He worked in Annapolis, Baltimore and Philadelphia (where this miniature was painted, and where he also painted miniatures of George and Martha Washington). In 1807 he returned to France, where he continued to work, eventually becoming curator of the Caen Museum in 1814.

A Late 19th Century Russian Silver & Enamel Box. The oval container having a flat blue enameled lid surmounted by a small boat conveying three figures; one stood playing a violin. The sides with engraved embellishments mounted on a rectangular platform base and having figures at each corner. Standing 4 ins (10 cms) in height on small ball feet .
A Late 19th Century Twin Weight Vienna Style Walnut & Ebonised Wall Clock. The glazed case having an architectural crested top above part-fluted corner columns and surmounted by ball & blade finials and terminating with a fluted cylinder and graduated ebonised pendant. The two part enamel Roman dial with subsidiary seconds having a weight driven movement and dead beat escapement. The wooden rod pendulum having a micrometer regulation. 44½ ins (113 cms) in height, 15 ins (38 cms) in width, 6½ ins (16 cms) in depth.
A Small Late 19th Century French Novelty `Swinging Cherub` Alabaster Clock. The enamel chapter ring enclosing the skeletonised visible movement. The cylindrical alabaster case surmounted by gilt brass lute & horns with foliage. The shaped supports rising above an angled plinth with a gilt border and short knop feet. 12 ins (30 cms) in height, 7 ins x 2½ ins (18 cms x 6.5 cms).
A 19th Century White Marble Mantel Clock. The surmounting gilt bronze cherub with bow & arrows seated above the reeded marble case that houses the painted enamel dial enriched with swags of flowers. The sides bearing two large gilt bronze foliate scrolls that rise above the plinth with a beaded border and berry finials. Raised on knop feet [one replaced] 12 ins (30 cms) in height, 8 ins (20 cms) in width, 5 ins (13 cms) in depth.
A Splendid Sèvres Porcelain Clock. The painted enamel dial signed Julien Le Roy, Paris and having a laurel wreath border, surmounted by an urn issuing a bouquet of flowers flanked by two reclining female figures. The porcelain plaques with a turquoise ground painted with a figural scene flanked by two floral garlands enriched with gilt borders. The gilded bronze base cast with acanthus leaves and raised on lobed knop feet. 19 ins (49 cms) in height, 17 ins (44 cms) in width, 6½ ins (16.5 cms) in depth.
