Two Caughley polychrome tea bowls and matching saucer circa 1792-95 enamelled in the Honeysuckle pattern, saucer 14.5cm diameter, tea bowl and saucer with red decorator's enamel 'P', together with an early Coalport transitional Chelsea ewer painted with flowers, 6.5cm high (3) (a.f) Provenance: Honeysuckle pattern teawares are ex. Roger Edmunson Collection. The tea bowl and saucer were exhibited in the Caughley Polychrome Exhibition 2005, No 217.
A large Japanese cloisonné enamel plate, decorated with a pair of cranes in flight over an icey lakeside and clear blue sky, within an intricate border, scaled to underside, 30 cm in diameter, together with a large Chinese cloisonné enamel dish decorated with fenguang motifs, 29 cm diameter and a pair of later Chinese enamel dishes, one with a shaped border and cream coloured ground decorated with a pigeon, perched on a branch laden with peaches, 22 cm diameter, the other decorated with a pigeon perched beside blossoms, 21.5 cm in diameter, a framed cloisonne tile, etc.
A Chinese bronze censor, Qing dynasty, decorated with Feng with a lotus flower, beneath two lug handles and supported upon three feet, with pseudo four character Xuande mark, height including handles 11.5 cm, together with a Chinese cloisonne bowl, late 19th century, decorated with cash symbols against a thunder ground and between Ruyi head and false gadroons, 12 cm diameter. CONDITION REPORT: The censor is in structurally good order. There are no significant dents, scratches, marks or breaks. The piece is very dirty. Other than this there are no issues. The accompanying bowl is also in structurally good order. There are no cracks, dents or losses to the enamel. It is however generally extremely dirty and the interior is scuffed and discoloured.
A Continental enamel and seed pearl brooch fob watch, circa 1900, the enamelled dial with subsidiary seconds dial framed by seed pearls, the back with engine turned guilloche enamel decoration with gilt flowers and further framed by seed pearls, struck to the inside "Fauvette Had, Argent Dore", all on a gold coloured metal body and suspension loop attached to a blue enamel ribbon.
A quantity of Masonic regalia, to include four silver/silver gilt medals and further gilt metal medals for John Doulton and Skiddaw lodges, two small stitched leather briefcases, a Wilkinson Sword poignard, aprons and cuffs. CONDITION REPORT: The poignard blade is in very good order with no issues. The handle grip and pommel are all tarnished with verdigris. The scabbard is present but again the metalwork is tarnished. The leather outer cover is perished and has approximately 25% loss. The John Dalton lodge medal with set square is silver as is the Crescent medal with Dove. The medal with the shaped ingot has silver mounts. The triangular medal with the letter N is silver. All of the enamelled medals are in good order with no enamel losses. All fasteners and pins are present and appear to be in good condition.
A pair of 19th century French champleve enamel and porcelain vases, each raised on an alabaster base, both signed, probably Armand. Height 17 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both vases are in extremely good condition. They are structurally sound. We can see no evidence of any damage, repairs or restoration. There does not appear to be any losses to the enamelling. There are no significant scratches or scuffs to the onyx.
Three pairs of vintage opera glasses, including Duchesse Perfectionee and Zingraff, Paris. CONDITION REPORT: One of the traditional pairs of opera glasses is in generally very good order. They focus correctly and have no significant blemishes to the leather. The similar pair are in reasonably good order but there is some deterioration of the leather in particular to one side. The third pair are not in particularly good order with sections of enamel missing and discolouration. They do however focus and operate as they should.
A Wedgwood porcelain coffee service with silver mounts, each piece decorated in gilt with fish, the cups with silver frame mounts with fish handles and complete with 6 enamelled spoons, Birmingham hallmarks for 1922, maker Levi & Salamon, cased (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The service is in generally very good condition. The saucers are all in good order with no hairline cracks and no significant scratching. Five of the cups are similarly in extremely good condition. One has a hairline crack running from the top lip three quarters of the way down the body which is visible on the inside and less so on the outer. The gilding is generally good and there is no staining. Two of the six enamelled spoons are in extremely good order. The remaining four all have losses to the enamel on the underside edge.
A Regency mahogany and brass inlaid single fusee clock, the enamel dial with Roman numerals, with single-train fusee movement, with applied foliate scroll swans neck pediment and all supported on squat turned bun feet. Height 34.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds and is currently ticking away. We have the key. The case is in extremely good condition. It is a good colour and requires no work. The dial is in generally good condition with only minor marks around the winding aperture. The clock could be enjoyed or resold in its current state without the need for any work.
A good late Victorian carved mahogany double fusee bracket clock, the slightly bowed silvered dial engraved with Roman numerals and black enamel, with two-train fusee movement chiming on a gong, the case finely carved with foliate scrolls and all supported on squat gilt metal feet. Height 35.5 cm. NOTE - A handwritten note to the interior inscribed "This clock was the property of Lord Nuffield's parents, Mr & Mrs Morris and was left to their daughter Miss Morris Lord Nuffield's sister who was resident at the convent in East Grinstead, she gave it to her chauffeur because the sisters considered its striking too loud".
A gilded brass four glass clock, of oval form, the enamel dial with Brocot escapement and with eight day movement chiming on a bell and with mercury compensating pendulum, the glass with bevelled edges. 20 cm wide, 30 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in extremely good condition all round. There is no tarnishing to the case. The front door panel and both side panels are in good order with no chips. The rear glass panel has a very small chip to the bottom left hand corner of the door. This is barely visible. The movement strikes on the full and half when manually advanced. The movement has been running for the past 10 minutes and appears to be ticking away as it should. The two glass tubes that house the mercury are discoloured at the top. The chapter ring has a hairline crack running from the bottom edge below the numeral 6 through the minute markers to just below the numeral 5. There are two further faint hairline cracks running from the outer to inner edge of the chapter ring.
Army Veterinary Department Edwardian Officer’s Helmet circa 1902-06.A fine rare short-lived example of the Home Service pattern blue cloth helmet complete with gilt metal cruciform base, ball top and rose bosses supporting a velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a fine gilt crowned star bearing silvered AVD monogram on black enamel centre. The interior retaining leather sweatband and tailor’s details of Samuel Gardner & Co of London. VGCThe all Officer Army Veterinary Department was amalgamated with the OR’s of the Army Veterinary Corps in March 1906.
Tunisia. Order of Nichan Iftikhar Grand Cross breast star Ali Bey circa 1882-1902A fine French made facetted silver multi pointed star bearing royal cypher to translucent green enamel centre. Reverse with Maison Bacqueville, Paris maker’s planchette and complete with hinged pin bearing silver silver marks flanked by stabilising hooks. VGC
