This period in the late 1950s was formative for Sottsass’s design aesthetic, and one of exceptional creativity in colour experimentation and combining different materials. As with this current rare vase, the works he designed for Il Sestante are typified as having high contrast tones and elegant form.

A pewter tankard bearing applied enamel badge for 'S.S Uganda' and a smaller tankard, former 13 cm high [The SS Uganda was a British steamship built in 1952 as a passenger liner, later serving as a cruise ship and during the Falklands war as a hospital ship, troop ship and afterwards a stores ship. She was laid up in 1985 and scrapped in 1992]
A Special Constabulary bronze medal named to Albert E. Walters. Type D obverse (1937-1948). Plus the medal’s original card transit box, a newspaper clipping reporting on Alberts death in Morton, Derbyshire. Additionally there are 2 late Victorian era gilt and enamel medals with ribbons. One commemorates Victoria’s diamond jubilee in 1897, and the other would appear to be a Temperance Association medal, with an enamel royal coat of arms to the centre. Condition: very good to each. Gilt finish on medallions appears to be mostly intact, plus the enamels are also good.
A H.Williamson Ltd Admiralty issued pocket watch. Numbered 415183 to dial and back cover, the latter also having a large broad arrow mark. White dial with Roman numerals, spade hands, and a subsidiary dial at the 6 o’clock position. Swiss made nickel case, which is numbered ‘12143’ to the inside. Approximately 5.5cm width across the face. Condition: generally good. Normal service wear to the case and glass from use. Numerous hairlines to the enamel dial, but no apparent losses. Small scuff to the ‘glass’ at the 7 o’clock position. When wound, the watch would appear to operate as it should, but this is by no means a guarantee. A selection of British WW2 medals and documents and items relating to 6468476 W/Sgt Herbert Edward Ray. Sgt Ray served with the Royal Fusiliers from March 15th 1940 through to December 12th 1941, and later with the Royal Artillery from December 13th 1941 through to July 20th 1946. To include: the 1939-45 star, Africa star, Italy star, Defence medal, and the 1939-45 war medal. Also, a chrome and enamel Royal Artillery sweetheart brooch, a photograph of Sgt Ray in uniform, his Soldiers Release Book and several items of wartime paperwork, a Helvetica WW2 GSTP soldiers pocket watch (minute hand is loose and the watch appears to be non working. Plus, a Soviet Russian naval cap badge, some sentimental WW1 era postcards, 2 x photographic postcards of trams, and other ephemera. Condition: generally good. Some normal service wear to the military related items, plus the medals retain their original ribbons. Watch appears to be non working and with a detached minute hand.
A vintage mid 20th century Knights Templar commanders sword, by C.E.Ward Co New London. Gilt on white metal cross guard, pommel, and langet, the latter with red infilled enamel detail. Black japanned grip with inset white metal cross. 70cm blade, with etching to both sides, featuring crusades scenes, religious symbolism, and a memento mori skull. Makers mark etched to the ricasso. Complete with gilt on white metal scabbard, with 3 suspension rings, and moulded decorative bands along the length, some with red enamel infills. Some of the scabbard bands are marked ‘54’. Notes: the gold wash to the hilt and scabbard would indicate that the sword belonged to a commander. Total length in scabbard approximately 91.5cm. Condition: generally very good and solid. Some very minor service wear to the high points of the gilt finish, revealing the white base metal below. Minor red enamel losses in a couple of places, but overall these are not detrimental. Blade is clean and bright, with clear etching,
A scarce WW2 era ‘Ind Coope Allsopp’ ARP badge. Chrome with red and blue enamel infills, marked JR Gaunt to the buttonhole fixing on the reverse. Plus, 3 WW2 era Home Guard badges, one sterling silver with a buttonhole fitting, a silver plated example with buttonhole fitting, and a gilt metal and enamel example with buttonhole fitting. Condition: generally good, with some service wear. The Ind Coope badge has some tiny nibbles to the blue enamel on the left hand side.
