The obverse centre of the C.B. absent and the suspension absent but with evidence of fixings soldered at 12 and 6 o'clock, the Indian Mutiny polished very fine. (Lot)Footnotes:C.B. London Gazette 28.2.1861.Cornet 6.3.1828; Lieutenant 28.9.1830; Captain 8.4.1842; Major 20.6.1854; Lieutenant Colonel 20.7.1858; Colonel 20.2.1863.Colonel Stuart was born in 1812 and joined the army in 1828. He commanded the 86th Regiment at the disarming of four companies of the 27th Native Infantry at Rutnagherry on the 11th of August 1857, shortly after the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny. He was present at the siege, storming and capture of Chanderee and commanded the left attack before Jhansi (30th March to 2nd April), he led the only successful escalade attack at the storming of that place. He comanded the party of the 8th Regiment in 'Field of the Stable' at Jhansi (brevet of Lieuenant-Colonel), he led the wing of the regiment as a storming party at Koonch. He was present in all actions before Calpec from the 13th to the 31st May 1858 including the battle at Galawler (in command of the piquets, 20th May) and capture of Calpec, he was further present at the battle of Morar and capture of Gwalior and was mentioned in despatches on several occasions. A collection of ceramics to include a 19th Century hand painted dessert set comprising six rectangular dishes and three circular dishes set with floral sprays and butterflies, a KPM teapot, a Swine Side Ceramic's milk churn decorated with cows, etc. CONDITION REPORTS The 19th Century dessert set has heavy wearing to the gilding and in one or two places with not much gilding left at all, one circular plate has a large hairline fracture/star crack to the base and one of the rectangular plates has a hairline fracture running from one side. There is actually one three rectangular dishes and there are three oval dishes, two of which feel very heavy and thick in comparison to the other. All three have chips to hte underside. There is heavy scratch marks to all the enamel decoration. KPM teapot has a fracture to the lid. The Swine Side milk churn has all over crazing and is discoloured to the interior. Blue and white transfer decorated comport has all over crazing, staining to the crazing, wear to the gilding, scratches, etc. and the Mason's Princess cake plate has all over crazing and discolouration. All items have wear and tear, the 19th Century dessert service particularly heavy. See images for more details.

A 19th Century oak cased long case clock, the eight day movement with square enamelled dial and moon phase, 51 cm wide x 25 cm deep x 205.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Has a pendulum, three weights but no winding key or key for case. Case has signs of old worm to the interior. Some losses throughout especially to the left hand pillar top. There is a hole to the front of the case and a split to the wood on the front lower section. Some areas missing / splitting to both sides of the bottom of the case. It looks as though it has possibly been repaired or restored at some point - it doesn't quite sit together. Appears to have new hinges and there is some damage to case on the right hand side of the top hinge. The pillar on the right hand side of the hood is loose and needs to be reattached. Again losses, bumps, etc on the hood. Signs of worm on the left hand side. The dial has significant wear and losses to the enamel as well as crazing all over. The moon phase has got a crack in the metalwork. Unknown if working or not. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for more detail.

Other items are in need of a clean and have general wear and tear conducive with age and use including some wear to the gilding and enamel paintwork and both milk jugs have significant restoration to the spout. A pair of Vicrorian Minton bleu celeste ground vases in the Classical style, decorated with panels of cattle and sailing vessel verso, raised on a square foot bearing 1860's puce printed Minton mark with crown within a circle, 37 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Both lids have been damaged and restored. One vase has had a large chunk taken out and repaired badly and has all over crazing throughout. The other has a large hairline fracture running through the entirety of the main body.
