A miniature Anglaise carriage clock with fluted columns: the eight-day duration movement having a platform lever escapement, the backplate stamped with the serial number 8608, the white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals with outer Arabic five minute numerals and blued steel spade hands, the Anglaise case having fluted pillars with Corinthian capitals and a Greek-key pattern handle, height 11.5cm. (handle up) 9.5cm (handle down). Complete with numbered winding key and leather travelling box.
Vincenti et Cie, Paris, a gilt-metal mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the maker Vincenti et Cie along with the serial number 2080, the round white enamel dial having black Roman hour numerals and blued steel moon hands, the gilt-metal case of c-scroll, floral and rococo form with applied figures to the front depicting two winged cherubs at play, the rear of the case stamped with the casemaker's initials P.G. 34, height 42.5cm.* Biography Vincenti set up his factory producing blancs roulants in Montbeliard in 1823 but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management. They were awarded silver medals for their movements at the Paris Exhibitions of 1824 and 1855. Vincenti died in 1834.
Circle of Adam Buck [1776-1852]-A miniature portrait of Major General Sir William Blackburne, Indian Army, head and shoulders, indistinctly initialled lower right,:-on ivory, oval 6.5cm, in a gold frame with guilloche enamel and hair plait reverse, together with a miniature oval painting of the Geneva and the river Rhone with Mont Blanc in the distance, fashionable pedestrians and horsemen in the foreground, 8.5 x 12cm, and a group of contemporary manuscript diary extracts and William IV Commission to the rank of Major General in The East Indies* Notes. Blackburne entered the Madras Army as a cadet in 1782 where he received an ensigns commission in 1783 and in 1790 was promoted to lieutenant. Having served in Madura, Tamil Nadu and Tinnevelly and the campaign to defeat Tipu Sultan in 1792, his skill as a linguist led to his being employed as a Maratha interpreter in Tanjore during the enquiry into the right of succession to the Tanjore Raj and later held the post of Maratha Interpreter in Tanjore. In 1801 he was appointed Resident at the Tanjore Court and held that office until he left India in 1823. Blackburne commanded his soldiers to repel two invasions of the local province. In 1804 having exposed fraud and oppression on the part of the native officials in Tanjore, Blackburne was employed by The Madras Government to remodel the local administration both in Tanjore and the native state of Pukukota. Blackburne left India in 1823 and received the honour of a knighthood in 1838, the year before he died. The landscape that accompanies the miniature is, by family repute, a contemporary and related view in India.
Payne, London an English boulle-cased bracket clock: the eight-day duration, single-fusee timepiece movement having an anchor escapement and engraved to the backplate Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, the white enamel and cast-brass dial having blue Roman numerals and outer Arabic five-minute numerals to the individual plaques with the centre signed Payne, 163 New Bond Street, London, and having blued-steel decorative hands, the waisted boulle case of red tortoiseshell inlaid with engraved brass along with two birds and two snails of inlaid mother-of-pearl, with applied ormolu mounts and surmounted by the figure of an eagle, height 55cm. * Biography William Payne was a well-known maker in the Victorian period and is recorded as working at 163, New Bond Street, London from 1826 until 1851 and then as Payne & Co. until at least 1875. He previously worked in various addresses in the West End of London from 1811.
An Edwardian enamel and silver-gilt boudoir clock: the eight-day duration timepiece movement having a platform lever escapement, the round silvered dial having gold spade hands, the silver-gilt case with purple guilloché enamel decoration and stamped to the underside Argent Dore along with the maker's initials JTC within a cartouche and serial number 12055, complete with leather travelling box, height 5.5cm.
A Chelsea bonbonniere: in the form of a lady's head with brown hair and four patches, wearing a pink ribbon tied bonnet, gilt metal mounts with Battersea enamel cover painted on either side with a flower spray, circa 1760, 5 cm [tiny chips and glaze crack to bonnet, crazing to enamel].* Provenance: By repute 'The Elizabeth Taylor Collection'.
Zenith, an Edwardian brass and enamel boudoir clock: the eight-day duration movement with lever escapement, the gilded dial having Arabic hour numerals, moon hands and signed Zenith, the black enamel case with brass inlaid decoration, standing on ball feet and stamped to the underside with the serial number 10670, complete with travelling box, height 6cm.
Delepine-Canchy, an engraved Gorge carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement stamped to the underside with the maker's name Soldano, and with the top stamped J.S. within a cartouche and No.696, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with push button repeat, the backplate stamped with the trademark for Pons, being that of the maker of the blanc roulant Delepine-Canchy of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, who succeeded Pons in the 1840s, the white enamel dial having an engine turned gilded mask, black Roman hour numerals and blued steel hands, the Gorge case engraved with floral decoration, with replaced handle, height 15.5cm (handle up) 13.5cm (handle down).
Justin Vulliamy. A late 18th century 18ct gold pair cased pocket watch:, the circular white enamel dial 36mm diameter with Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel poker hands, the movement with fusee and cylinder escapement, pierced cock with rose diamond end stone and backplate signed 'Justin Vulliamy', with date code CCO, in a plain 18ct gold case and monogramed and engraved outer case, both with hallmarks for London '1778', 47mm outer case diameter, 101gms gross weight.
A Meissen porcelain mantel clock: in the form of four allegorical putti representing the four seasons amongst elaborate applied flowers, foliage and C scrolls, the striking movement by Henry Bell, Paris with white enamel dial and blue enamel Roman and Arabic numerals, underglaze blue crossed swords mark, circa 1880, 46 cm high [minor losses to flowers].
