Pair of violeters; French school, XIX century following japan models from late XVIII century and early XIX. Bronze and enamel. Measurements: 14,5 x 7 x 5,5 cm. Pair of violeters made in bronze and decorated with enamel and bas-reliefs. The pieces stand on a westernizing pedestal, and have a prismatic structure with flattened corners. Its central body culminates in a recessed upper structure, with a quadrangular profile on the outside and circular on the inside, the latter acting as a mouth in which the violets are placed. The profuse decoration of the enamels stands out, which, together with the gilding of the bronze, form a totally orientalist design, based on a geometrical background, on which are placed white enameled lily flowers, in combination with masks in bas-reliefs that continue the floral design. Thus, we are faced with a piece tending to horror vacui, which continues the decorative guidelines of oriental art, although it introduces elements close to western decorative arts.
