A rare 19th century French walnut cased regulator, with a jewelled pin wheel escapement and an unusual circular engraved brass dial, with subsidiary dials for month, moon and date, and four pierced apertures for the signs of the Zodiac, four parts of the day, the planets and the seasons, all titled in Latin, with an enamel chapter ring and a brass bezel, the steel pendulum with a twin canister mercury bob, the case with canted corners having figured veneers and applied mouldings, the base with a hinged door, 84.5in (215.6cm) h. The pierced apertures have finely engraved images, each titled thus ; Liver, Printemps, Etas, Avtonne; Vespra, Nox, Avrora, Merides; Sol, Lina, Mars, Mercvrivs, Ivpiter, Venus, Satvrn. The Zodiac aperture with images only.
