It has a large robust chrome metal case with protective glass, luminous hands and numerals which all characterise this watch. The black enamel dial has a picture of Stalin and Zhukov saluting a military parade in Red Square. The manufacturer's name and address also appear on the dial. The inside of the backplate of the watch is inscribed 'Marshal Gyorgy Zhukov although his name is generally reported as Georgy. Why do these two great Russian Generals appear on the same watch? The watch was purchased more than twenty years ago by Wythenshawe Resident Author Broadcaster and Historian David Turner. It is alleged that this watch was presented to Marshal Zhukov by Joseph Stalin in recognition of Marshal Zhukov's success fully defending Stalingrad against the German onslaught and capturing Berlin in World War II ahead of the Allied Forces so we have two Russian Army Generals depicted on this watch who were also seconded to several senior posts within the government.
