Central flower detail to front and back with black and blue enamel (some areas worn), surrounded by engine turned decoration and floral detail to edges & hanging bale. Two miniature photographs to interior of a 1st world war solider and an Edwardian lady. No visible gold marks. Pictures unmoved to determine gold marks. Tests as 9ct gold. Approx. 3.5cm x 2.25cm. Total weight approx. 7.4g.

1 Large size 19th century enamel button from China.Here is an example from the new-old stock that the late Alethe Alan acquired from China many years ago. This example has a white ground and shows a beautiful pattern in cloisonne work, all set in a Chinese silver mounting. In Alethe's things there was only a few of these types and this appears to be the last one. 1 Small size incredibly beautiful button of a butterfly.The consignor of this button was certainly quite fortunate to find 4 of these buttons, and that�s why one is here in the auction because if they had only gotten one, well needless to say it would not be available in this auction. 1 Extra large 19th century Japanese Enamel on Silver repouss�.Here is once again another incredible button by the Japanese. The silver and enamel buttons from Japan that collectors love are wonderful but this example is beyond belief. The extra large size and the enamel colors and the deign are magnificent. Tin Dang has explained the story of this button as the Phoenix and the Black Tortoise (turtle). Notice the Dragon on this button has the head of a turtle. These animals represent part of the four holy beasts in the Asian culture and stories. The button represent the North and the South. The North is the Turtle and the South is the Phoenix.
