Seven early 19th century Palais Royal mother of pearl and gold utensils, each marked with an enamel pansy within a shield and with a monogram to the verso, comprising: a pen and pencil, a paper knife, a ruler, an awl and two bladed tools, 15.5cm long, max. A fine early 19th century Palais Royal ebony and cut Tula steel nécessaire, the hinged lid inset with a mother of pearl panel carved with a basket of flowers, a band of leaves and cornucopiae and with a central vacant shield, the underside of the lid inset a mirror above a lift-out tray fitted with mother of pearl and gold mounted utensils including: a glass perfume bottle, a penknife, a pair of scissors, a thimble, spool holders, snowflake thread winders, a needlecase and a crochet hook holder, several with the gold and enamel pansy rondel mark for Palais Royal, on ball feet, Russian or Austrian, 18.5cm wide. A rare George V Staffordshire pottery ceramic colour sample plate, painted with samples of enamel colours, inscribed and numbered, the centre inscribed 'ROBERT EMERY, COBRIDGE STOKE ON TRENT 1919', 22cm diameter. Provenance: Purchased from William Agnew at the Grosvenor House Fine Art Fair. The Property of a Collector. Robert Gordon Emery was a Staffordshire based colour manufacturer and chemist. He was based at 69 London Road, Stoke. There is a similar earthenware plate by W. J. Furnival in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
