1 Large 19th century painted and lacquered leaf button. We have seen this button before, but never in this kind of quality or makeup. The design, the metal, the natural material has been seen before and is a very nice button, but the silver and gold original paint along with the accented black lacquered or possibly enamel finish is most definitely very unusual. The metal design of the Art Nouveau flowing style leaf is set with a background of a cream colored natural material and shanked with a loop and plate shank. A great and most unusual version of this already beautiful Art Nouveau design. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". Large=1 1/4" and above, extra large=1 3/4" and aboveCondition: Note: Antique buttons may show wear. Significant issues are noted, but shanks and backs on multi-button cards are not guaranteed. 23 S/M/L mostly 18th century and early 19th century buttons. Here is a TERRIFIC card of buttons with some we had thought to sell individually but in the end decided to leave the card Jean Young had put together in this way. The lot includes a wonderful lavender faux Wedgwood enamel snowflake DF on a patterned domed brass late 18th century example, wood and steel, some beautiful and striking paste jeweled strass crystal buttons, colonial pearl, copper, Tombac and other metal, repousse wood back and more. Look closely this is a great group. Were probably crazy for not breaking all of this up into separate lots but this is your opportunity to buy some nice examples all in one lot. Notice the scarce small 18th century copper and steel at the top pf the card, smalls are truly hard to find. 1 Large 20th century silver and Plique A Jour Dragonfly buttonThis stunning and colorful example for Plique A Jour enamel was hand made in 1999 by Michelle Raney of California. Michelle's fine workmanship and attention to detail was always prized among collectors, especially those in California who were often able to find them for sale like the late Jean Young did. The green and purplish pinkish colors in this example on the (white) silver was made to commemorate the Suffragette according to the note from Jean on her card. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". 1 Large medium 19th century "DISH" enamel button!"Dish" style enamel buttons are quite sought after by collectors worldwide and are jot readily available to purchase. This stunning Delft style scene is no exception. The detailed and vibrant enamel work on this dish is truly gorgeous. There is however one small issue with this example. At approximately 8 o'clock there is a chip in the enamel at the side, which is somewhat not seen because of the white finish underneath and the blend of the white and blue enamel already present so the chip hardly effects the overall appearance as a result. The size and design of this example are impressive. Bruce tells us he has never seen this example at least not in this larger size before. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". 1 Large 20th century enamel pictorial with a scarce paste border. The Motiwala Brothers of India were entrepreneurs in the 1950's and 60's and were commissioned by American collectors and dealers to create some incredible buttons in a variety of techniques. The most popular of those techniques were the transfers on enamels taken from various depictions on greeting cards, magazines and other material. The designs used ranged from Religious subjects, to children's stories and much more. This example of the "Last Supper" is one of those harder to find examples as it has a brilliant crystal paste border. The paste border examples come up for sale very infrequently and this is an opportunity for you to own one now. Don't pass it up as we said they are e very hard to come by. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". 1 Large polychrome enamel with a rare silver resist finish. When Karen Cohen was writing her new book on enamels we sent her many images that she used in this book and one was a button apparently from the same set as this consigned example. Karen at the time had not been aware of this process on enamel buttons and we are here to tell you it was certainly a scarce technique to say the least. This example has a polychrome painting with a detailed engraved silver deposit acting as the headdress and breastplate on the figure and is set with a paste jewel border and all set in silver, A rare find so don't pass it up. You can see the other example in Karen's new colorful and informative book on enamels. Issued: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4".
