In the interwar years he served with the Merchant Service and was at one time based at Suez as a Pilot. He was recalled in WW2 and served once again with the RNR.

A Victorian onyx and champleve enamel oil lamp, with cranberry glass reservoir etched with a gilt quiver of arrows and flaming torch united by a ribbon to each side, the column with gilt metal Corinthian capital above the enamel and onyx column, the raised square baes with chamfered edges, 61cm high excluding electrical fitting.Condition report: Converted to electricity. Small nicks and bruises to the base corners, but nothing too significant. A couple of tiny nicks to the onyx platform surface above the capital. The reservoir is fixed into the brass fitting rather untidily.

Nesbitt, Makers, 42, Market Street, Manchester', beneath a hammer and bell, hand cranked, raised on a mahogany base with turned legs, 59cm high, 71.5cm wide, 40.5cm deepCondition report: The enamel of the gauge has a small chip, some long hairline cracks and is discoloured. The brass is discoloured and scuffed. There are signs of there once having been a drawer to the underside, which is now missing. All mechanical parts appear to be in good working order.
An unusual late 19th century Lenzkirch glass and brass circular mantel clock, the painted enamel dial bearing Arabic numerals, movement numbered 453919, modelled in the Empire style with a sphinx and floral garlands to the front, on a square base woth four swept feet, 20 cm high x 12.5 cm.Condition report: Glass missing from dial. Some stressmarks to the glass at the back, where the cover plate sits. No key present, so not tested as working.

Both vases have a lot of kiln dirt in the enamel, specifically around the shoulder and base. The butterfly box is missing some shell inlay, a repair to the rear of the lid and a 2.5cm section of rim missing to the rear of the box and a small chip tp the rim of the inner tray. The small cloisonne pot is missing a lid, has a couple of chips to the neck, a chip to one panel and a chip above the foot rim.
