A group of WWII medals for 920295 Pilot Officer Denny Lake RAF including an Aircrew Europe Star, 1939-1945 Star, War medal, all with ribbons, citation papers, a two page handwritten letter from Lake to his wife dated 10th July 1940 (the first day of the Battle of Britain) which mentions bombings and use of anti aircraft guns at his airfield, a telegram reporting him missing in action, dated 18th June 1941, also an RAF cigarette case with enamel enamel RAF insignia, and an ancestor's presentation issue list of Subscribers to the 'Testimonial'. RARE: CANINE PORTRAIT PIN BY JOHN WILLIAM BAILEY, mounted with a circular portrait of a greyhound 9mm diameter and signed J W Bailey to the reverse, the pin 80mm long, John William Bailey (1831-1914) was a painter of enamel miniatures who specialised in portraits of dogs. Bailey exhibited in the Royal Academy and his works are now within the V&A. He trained under William Essex (1784-1869) who is the artist responsible for the miniature set into lot 1302

RARE: KING CHARLES CAVALIER TRICOLOUR SPANIEL PORTRAIT PIN BY WILLIAM ESSEX, set with a circular portrait of a King Charles spaniel after Queen Victoria's painting 'Dash' by Edwin Landseer, 9mm diameter and signed W. Essex to the reverse, mounted to a pin 63mm long, William Essex (1784-1869) was a painter of enamel miniatures and was appointed as enamel painter to royalty. There are a number of examples of his work in the Royal Collection.
