Observing a German gun position that threatened the beleaguered ground troop he descended to 700 feet to attack it with machine gun fire. He then saluted men of the Liverpool and the Manchester 'Pals' battalions (advancing in one of the more successful areas of the battle) by flying low over their heads and waggling his wings - to be greeting by enthusiastic arm waving.** August of that year found him engaging in successful dog fights with Fokkers, before sustaining a bullet wound to the abdomen, 25/08/16. A Cantonese famille rose enamel ewer and cover, Qianlong, for the Middle Eastern market, the pear shaped body decorated with red crested cranes and deer on a flower and scroll ground, 35cm high (damages) and a small enamel famille rose dish, 14.5cm diameter/see illustration Condition Report: Lot 151:Ewer has areas of losses and restoration to handle, spout and elsewhere. The cover has loose finial and extensive losses to enamel particularly around finial. Poor.Saucer has large area of missing enamel under rimas well as some wear, hair cracks etc.
