AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY POTTERY FIGURE GROUP OF JOAN OF ARC ON HORSEBACK BY STANLEY THOROGOOD, A ROYAL DOULTON PROTOTYPE, the slip moulded figure with Joan of Arc seated on a rearing horse holding enamel and wooden flag, two male knights clinging onto either side of the horse, a third knight lying beneath the horse, signed and dated 1919, the shaped rectangular base is on a wooden plinth inset with four ceramic shields and four ceramic panels worded 'JEANNE D'ARC', 'MAI 23-1430', 'J'AI JURE' ET BAILLE MA FOI A' UN AUTRE QU A VOUS ET JE LUIS TIENDRAI MON SERMENT', height including plinth 62cm (condition: flag has areas of enamel loss, cracks and crazing, the model has some crazing in the glaze and large firing faults/damage around the horse's rear legs and under front legs)
