The handle at the top functions correctly. The rear door opens correctly and the hinge shows no sign of wear. The mechanism appears to be complete however we cannot warrant the originality of all components. The clocks winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested, The white enamel dial is in good condition showing no hairline cracks or discolouration. A Black Forest Cuckoo Automaton Clock, the 4.5ins diameter white enamel dial with Roman numerals, set within half-length portrait of a couple with moving eyes, to the weight driven movement striking on a gong, contained in gilt and painted frame with shaped cresting, 18.5ins highWe believe this item to date from the turn of the last century. Externally the clock presents in honest condition showing wear commensurate with age and some repair over the years. The hinges are mounted externally and are not period and are relatively crudely fastened. The glazed door to the front appears to be fabricated from a picture frame. It is also not wearing the original glass which is now set in a mastic rather than the original putty. The dial appears to be in good condition with some marking and spotting however this is consistent with age. The portrait itself again appears to be free from any retouching. The decorative floral work to the exterior may have been enhanced at some stage. The enamel dial to the clock is in good condition however its fit to the bezel is not particularly precise, the back Roman numerals are clear and concise, the hands appear to be original. The rear panel and gong appear to be original and in fair condition. The mechanism is complete however we cannot warrant the originality of all components. The cuckoo is present. The bellows on the two cuckoo boxes appear to be replacement but they do function. Likewise the mechanism to the moving eyes appears connected and appears to function, similarly with the cuckoo. However the clock has not been heard in running order with all functions working. There are also several modern screws attached to the mechanism. The chain is present as is the pendulum and two weights. Prospective bidders are strongly advised to study all images closely prior to bidding as they form part of the condition report.
A Late 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Rotary Pendulum Mystery Clock, By Henri-Eugene-Adrien Farco, Paris, No.49568, the 3.5ins dial with Roman numerals, to the two train movement striking on a bell (missing), the movement backplate stamped with an anchor and star maker's mark, contained in bow and breakfront case of architectural design with fluted scroll side brackets and surmounted by a figure of a classical maiden, her right arm raised to support a pendulum with a globe bob, on turned and cast feet, 24ins high and shaped and moulded gilt plinthExternally the clock presents in condition commensurate with age and moderate usage. There are areas of gilding particularly to the top of the clock where the gilding is quite rubbed. The wooden base has numerous chips and nibbles to the front edge, 2.5ins wide where it is missing and in general round the sides. The figurine on the top has been at some point either painted or re-gilded (in our opinion). There are numerous marks in general to the paint finish including some staining. It is also rubbed to the lower edge of the robe. The pendulum appears to be in good condition although we cannot warrant that it is the original. The enamel dial is in good condition free from any hairline cracks, chips or obvious damage although it is a little bright and it may possibly have had some restoration. There is no rear cover to the mechanism. The mechanism appears complete but we cannot warrant its originality. The clock should be considered as non-running. Overall an example that has had some obvious attempt at restoration in the past but would benefit from further work. Prospective bidders are strongly advised to study all images closely prior to bidding as they form part of the condition report.

Some light pitting to the white glaze sections. Some 'marks' on the white glaze do come off when scraped with a fingernail.Marble base - there is a crack in the face of the edge running from the base diagonally up to the top, to the right centre. Further along there is an infilled crack. Scattered chips to edges along the top and base.Light rubbing to the highlights of the gilding.

The gilding being complete and in good condition apart from some light rubs commensurate with age and general usage.
