The subject was a favourite of 18th and 19th century copyists and recorded examples include another in enamel by Henry Bone, signed and dated 1807 set in the lid of a gold snuff box (Wallace Collection, London). Further examples are in the Victoria & Albert Museum (No 940-1868) and the Musee Condé, Chantilly. Anne 'Ninon' de l'Enclos (1620-1705) was one of the brightest ornaments of 17th century Parisian life. She embodied beauty, wit and influence at the highest levels of society.
