Description: A 19th century French Louis XVI style blue and parcel gilt porcelain gilt bronze mounted clock garniture by Japy Fils Surmounted by three playful bacchanalian cherubs, the circular enamel dial with Roman numerals set into a gilt bronze base on scroll feet, the movement signed on the reverse JAPY FILS 1855 MEDAILLES 1844 1849 and numbered 431, together with the matching three light candelabra with cherub caryatids and leafy fronds on gilt bronze scroll bases, the clock 37cm high. Description: An impressive and large late 19th century French Louis XVI style clock garniture by Susse Frères The clock in the form of Cupid holding a timer with floral festoons, the 5 inch enamel dial with Roman numeral and Arabic seconds signed Susse Frères, Paris, the circular movement with Brocot type suspension to the anchor escapement and rack strike on a bell, punched in an oval 'Susse Frères, Paris, 262'; on a an oval plinth base, on turned feet, the case also stamped Susse Frères, the accompanying six-light candelabra in the form of urns after Clodion, with bacchanalian scenes, on square plinth bases applied with festoons, on bracket feet, both urns stamped Susse Frères, the clock 38cm wide, 19cm deep, 61cm high, the urns each 76cm high. The Susse Frères foundry was renowned for the quality of its casting and multipatinated finishes, they exhibited with notable success at many of the great exhibitions of the nineteenth century including a prize medal at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London and a Grand Prix at the 1905 Lieges Exposition Universelle. A late 18th century 'Nelson' Service Paris porcelain dinner plate, the border with brightly enamelled oak leaves and gilded acorns, inter spaced with two panels of blue swags and gilt inscriptions, both with the name 'Nelson' one inscribed 'Baltic' and the other '14th February', in enamel colours and gilding over a lightly printed outline, 22.7cm diameter. (some rubbing and chips)* Notes- The origin of the Nelson set is unknown but it is probable that it was presented to Nelson in 1802 by the City of London. In that year Nelson was invited to ride in the Lord Mayor's coach in the inaugural procession of the Lord Mayor. The date of 14th February commemorates the Battle of Cape St VincentIt is possible that the City of London commissioned the set from a London china shop with its own decorating workshop. Much of the set was of Coalport porcelain, as the Coalport factory was the main supplier of 'blanks' for London decorators.
Each modeled in the shape of a large lotus blossom with incised overlapping petals outlined in black enamel and filled with shades of pink, the outer row of petals rising to form the gently flared wall of the vessel, the yellow-dotted stamen pierced with a small circular aperture leading up into the hollow lime-green stem that forms the handle, inscribed in black with Guangxi six character mark. Length: 18.2 cm. Appears to be in a good condition
